Problems with Groomsmen Suits

Anyone having problems with the groomsmen attire? FI and I picked out  their suit at Macy's a month ago, it's a very unique looking grey Kenneth Cole suit that was on sale so we urged all the groomsmen to go try it on at their local store and purchase it as soon as possible since the sale would only last so long. Well, 3 bought it and the 2 that haven't are saying that is doesn't come in a size big enough for them, the largest size the suit comes in is a 48L which neither of these guys are very big so I'm confused. One says he wears like a 50 so I'm just wondering why can't he take it to the alterations department to see if there's something they can do...has anyone's groomsmen done something like this?

I'm just a little frustrated because if this was a concern of theirs I wish they would have been more proactive about it and gone and tried it before everyone else had bought it. I really don't think we'll be able to find something to match it since it has such a unique pinstipe pattern so now FI is suggesting just asking everyone else to return theirs and we'll pick something else. Ugh.

Re: Problems with Groomsmen Suits

  • There is a HUGE difference in mens tailoring vs women's. My FI varies in suit sizes from a 48R to a 52R depending on the designer. He ordered a suit from his local tailor, who has made/ordered all of his suits for him, and it didn't fit. The shoulders were too small and you CANNOT alter a jacket there. Remember, just cause the waist might fit, the jacket might not.
  • Thanks for the advice ladies! I definitely don't know the first thing about men's alterations and that's why I wanted to get other peoples experience. We ended up going to a larger Men's Wearhouse store because we knew they sell Kenneth Cole to ask if they have it in a larger size than Macy's sells. They didn't but they had a Ralph Lauren suit that was identical except that it's blue searsucker rather than grey (the original suit is a grey with thin white pinstripe, like searsucker except it's grey). FI tried it on, I put on the original grey suit jacket and stood next to him haha and they definitely looked like they would compliment each other well. SO since Men's Wearhouse is having BOGO right now we're going to have the two groomsmen that haven't been able to get the original buy this one and possibly the best man return his and purchase this blue one and then have the suit colors alternating (when they're standng next to each other) so that it will look planned.

I was extremely frustrated about all of it yesterday because I really liked the suit on my FI and I knew he did as well and asking 3 other guys to go return the suits they already bought and purchase a new one seemed like a lot to ask. But I think the coordinating suits will work out well together
