opinion on adding color to this

I really want to add color to my ivory gown.  My dress has a (sort of) lacy overlay that is open in the front.  The bust of the gown is gathered.  (pics below)

In your opinion, do you think a seamstress would be able to add a colored sash just below the bust of this dress?  Should I have the sash hang down, or just go around the back and end at the zipper?

Thanks for any opinions!

Re: opinion on adding color to this

  • I would a pretty brooch right at the point of the "V"....that would be beautiful.
  • color would look great. And a seamstress could definately do that!! It would be pretty to have the sash wrap around your waist and hand down the back. It would accentuate your waist.
  • I think this could look great, what color do you want to use?

  • Ok, I'm dissenting here- I would not mess with the dress, but would maybe find some really fun colorful surprising shoes. I just think the thing that makes that dress so pretty is the elegant simplicity of it. And the sash wouldn't be at your waist, but at the empire line, competing with the gathering at the bust, which is a really nice detail. Just my opinion!
  • I vote go with brooch also.  I think adding color will take away from the natural flow of the dress.  Colorful shoes are a great suggestion also.

  • Thanks everyone -

The sash around the waist won't work because the lacy overlay joins in front right under the bust, but then opens down the front showing the satin gown under it. (the pics really don't show this)

I was thinking more like this (not my dress, but same idea)
I like the broach idea too. I just really like color and it took A LOT of convincing by my FI for me to wear even an ivory gown.  I wanted a green one!!!

  • My dress is a different style, but it has the same thing you're thinking of adding with a broach right at the middle in the front. I really like your dress and I would suggest you get it done in the same colour as the dress. Mine matches my dress colour and I think it's very flattering. Although not sure if having it come down at the back would ruin the flow of the dress, mine just wraps around, no detailing at the back at all.
