bridemaids...

Our wedding colors are deep jewel tones with peacock accents. FI is wearing a dark grey suit, white shirt, royal blue tie. No idea what groomsmen are wearing yet.

My dress is a chiffon sheath with a jeweled neckline. I'm thinking about having the girls pick their own knee length black dresses and their own jewel toned shoes, then providing either a peacock belt or hairpiece (depending on the dress) as part of their gift to tie it all together.

I have seven bridesmaids from size 2 to size 18/20. Picking their own is necessary in my mind. We're also having a 2:00 ceremony.

Is black too heavy for a daytime ceremony? Am I crazy on the pick your own? This is by far the most stressful part so far.

  • 1. You are definitely NOT crazy for letting your bridesmaids pick their own dresses. This is what I did and it was one of the biggest stress relieving moves I made.

    2. I don't think short, black dresses are too heavy for daytime.

    3. Anything you are requiring the girls to wear on the wedding day (sash/hairpiece, etc.) shouldn't be part of their gift.  The gift is to thank them for standing up next to you, not to have them fit in with your vision.

<div>That's a good point. I would still provide accessories. (beside shoes) </div><div>
</div><div>My gift is a tote of goodies so it probably wouldn't even work with that anyway. </div>

  • Personally I don't think that black is too heavy for a daytime ceremony. I think it will look very elegant. Picking their own dresses is a great idea- I think it's pretty cute when bridesmaids don't wear matching dresses.

I agree! This is an awesome colour scheme! Sounds so beautiful to me!
  • My friend who was married in october did a daytime wedding, we all wore black. It worked out well with the bright orange flowers :).
