Two In One Dress

So I needed some opinions about what to do for my wedding dress. I am having an outdoor wedding July of next year. It will most likely be pretty warm outside. I want to do the traditional long dress for the ceremony but want a shorter one for the reception. I've seen the trend in the two in one dresses where you can take the bottom off the dress to shorten it. I was wondering if there was anyone out there that has tried the dress and would/would not recommend them. I don't really want to buy to dresses and like the idea of it still being the same dress just shorter. Any opinions/advice is appreciated.

I saw/ tried one on by Allure. It was cute and an intriguing idea but it wasn't my style. http://www.adaytorememberbridalboutique.com/detail.php?ProdId=2647449&CatId=6529&thisOffset=3&resPos=-1&pSort=
Just google bridal dresses with detachable skirts to see what kind of styles there are.

Btw, if you're planning to shorten to stay cool, you could also consider a hoop skirt. I know hoop skirts bring all sorts of terrible visions at the first sound of it, but they're not that bad. First, they also come in small, normal A-line sizes.. not just enormous Gone With the Wind types. And second, they cool you off A LOT. It keeps the dress and all the crinoline away from your legs, so it really keeps you feeling cool. I'm actually using one myself, (but I instead got a big one for the ball gown effect) and I'm also a July bride. When you're at a bridal store, ask to try one on... just to get the feel for it and see what you think. Even if they'll only have a large one for you to try on, you'll see what I mean! ;-) Good luck!
  • I just bought an adjustable hoop for one of my actors.  She was amazed at how much cooler it made her costume.  It's definitely an option!

My concern with the convertible dresses is simply that there aren't many out there and I'd hate to see someone compromise and pick a dress that's ok simply because it's a convertible dress.  Before this trend hit, I knew someone who had one made; maybe that's an option for you?  She and her husband are salsa dancers so she wore the big poofy ball gown for the ceremony and first dance, then whipped off the skirt to reveal a slinky salsa skirt underneath and they did the salsa.  It was pretty awesome.

You could also talk to a seamstress about the possibility of converting a regular dress into a two piece/convertible dress.
