Ivory dress - what color should groomsmen shirts be??

Hi -
My dress is definately ivory - you don't have to hold something white up to it to tell.  Do you think the groomsmen's shirts should be ivory or white?  They are wearing traditional tuxes.  The ivory shirts that the tux rental place has are a shade more yellow than my dress.  So it seems they can go with white and be a shade lighter, or ivory and be a shade yellower.  It means my fiancee would wear an ivory shirt and vest that is a shade yellower than my dress also.
Thanks for your opinions!

  • My dress is ivory and the guys are wearing white shirts. The problem with the ivory shirts is that they will most likely just end up looking dirty. You see so little of the shirt anyways (just the tips of the collar, really) that it won't look funny.

  • I am wearing an ivory dress too...also debated this dilemna...but in the end have decided to go with white shirts.  Agree with PP that ivory shirts can end up looking dirty. Also...ivory and white tend to look nice together, my friend recently had her her groomsmen wear ivory ties with white shirts....it was very understated and looked nice..I was surprised!

  • My dress was ivory, and the guys all wore white shirts. In fact, we didn't even buy them matching shirts; we told them just to wear white shirts they already owned.

  • I'd go with white. I'm wearing an ivory dress as well but we ended up going with black for the groomsmen and white for the dads/ushers. I think the ivory shirts would look dingy as well.
  • I am wearing ivory and opted for white shirts with ivory vests and bowties for the guys. I think its a super elegant "springy" look instead of the traditonal black vest and tie.
  • I wore an ivory dress and MH and the GM wore ivory shirts and I don't think they looked dingy at all. It actually matched the color of my dress perfectly.

In the store I'll admit that I had my doubts because the shirts did look yellow but I thinks that's because of the bad lighitng in a lot of those stores.
  • I agree with everyone else on the white.

  • My dress is champagne colored, even darker than ivory, so I am in an even worse boat than you. However, I think it looks really sharp for the groomsmen to be wearing a black tux with a BLACK shirt, and then a champagne (or ivory in your case) colored vest and tie. It looks different, but it will also look nice when their jacket is off as well. Plus it will make the groomsmen stand out from the other men in suits. If you don't go with the black shirt idea, then I would get white shirts. If neither the ivory or white match, why risk making them look dirty.

  • We are doing black shirts and black vests for groomsmen and then black shirt/ivory vest for the groom. I liked it much better as I had the same problem of the ivory being too dark, and I love the black on black look~ very sharp!
  • I wore an ivory dress and the groomsmen and MH wore white shirts. I thought the ivory shirts looked too yellow in the store.
