waterproof dyed shoes?

Does anyone know if there is a way to weatherproof / waterproof dyed shoes?  Not that I'd be jumping in puddles or anything, but in the event there was dew in the grass or a raindrop or a spilled drink I am nervous to get dyed shoes for fear of them bleeding onto my dress. (I have looked high and low for a low height royal blue pump, but there are tons of cute dyables!!)   I have heard that dyed shoes can be a mess and turn your feet and dress different colors!  Any advice would be much appreciated :)  Thanks!

  • I know there are also sealants that can be put on dyed shoes to keep the color from bleeding. I would talk to whomever dyes them about that, or take them to a local cobbler/shoestore and ask about having sealant added if you've already had them dyed.

  • Where did you get your shoes dyed? I'm considering buying dyable shoes, and don't want a big hassle. Thanks for asking this question BTW, I never even thought about them needing to be sealed!  :)

  • When I had my shoes dyed they wouldn't guarantee the shoes not to bleed if they got wet. And I did buy the sealant, and sprayed them rather well the night before.
Of course it rained, and the shoes didn't keep their color well along the toe. And my feet were a little purple, but they washed off just fine.

Even though they beld, they did the job. And I'd do it again.

Google 'shoe repair' in your local area.  Almost any shoe repair place will have the capability.  Then call around and ask about pricing and any other questions you might have... try to find some online reviews if you can (I didn't find many).

  • Thanks for all the info!!  I called a shoe repair place in my town, but they said there was no way to waterproof them.   I refuse to give up though! lol  I have to find this sealant that a few of you have mentioned.  I didn't get shoes dyed yet, just weighing my options since I'm not finding much in the royal blue that I want without a really tall heel.   I don't mind if my feet turn a little blue, but I wouldn't want to ruin the bottom of my dress.

Thanks again for the suggestions!  If I have any new developments I will post! :)

Sorry to have butt in, thanks for the advice!

Oh, and have you tried Zappos.com? They have some low heeled navy blue options...
