david's bridal dresses/big alterations

Hi everyone,
I just purchased a dress at David's and am hoping to lose about 20-30lbs before my wedding next year.  I ordered the dress in the size I am now, but am wonder how much they are able to take in dresses if I do in face, lose a bunch of weight by then.  I ordered a size 14 and figure 20-30lbs would be at least several sizes smaller.
So I'm wondering, can they take it in that much, and would it likely just be cheaper to buy the same dress in a smaller size rather than alter it?

thanks

Do not buy a dress in the size you hope to be. It is much easier to take a dress in then take it out. And general rule is your ok with 2 sizes less then your original size.

  • I bought my dress at DB and within 3 weeks lost like 8 lbs but it was 2 dress sizes. Since I planned on loosing at least 20 more pounds, I asked them if I could exchange the dress and they let me. So even if I loose more weight, they can take the dress in but it wont be more than 2 sizes. If you have already lost some weight, ask the store you bought the dress at about this option, otherwise, I must agree with PP that you should buy the size you are now and it can always be taken in.
  • thanks.. i did buy the size i am now, the 14, and im hoping to be a few sizes smaller come the actual day.  Glad to hear they let you swap it for a different size.  I was reading the faqs on their site and it said no returns/exchanges.  good to know!
