Bought a Christina Wu 5521 Dress Size 12 and can not be altered to my size 6 Please HELP!!!

I bought a Christina Wu 5521 size 12 and I was told that it can be altered to my size 4-6, went to a dozen seamstress and told me that they cant. Reason being the dress has custom hand beaded crystals all over it and it would change the over all look of the dress. I can't take it back, it was a all sales final bridal shop. What should I do?

  • Well if the salon told you it can be altered and now it cant then I would def fight with them on that... if nothing can be done by that then try putting it up for sale on bravobride, craigslist, and preowneddresses.com - and either buy the same dress used from someone else or see if you can buy a sample gown in your size from another salon... good luck

  • Any gown can be made smaller. The seamstresses are not being very truthfull. I have seen gowns taken in 3-4 sizes. Designers make the gowns so that they are able to be let out or taken in. Crystals can be taken off and sewn back on. Ask your local board for recommendations.
  • Well a size 12 wedding dress is technically atleast a 14-16 street so to take it down to a street size 6 would require a major overhaul of the dress.  I agree they couldn't take that in without majorly changing the dress especially if it has extensive beadwork on it.  I would take it back tot the shop and ask then what they want you to do.  I think even if they do alter it, you are not going to like when they are done and then you are for sure stuck with the dress.  I would try to sell it and buy the dress in your size.
  • this same thing happened to me with an all lace dress. Size 12 to size 2. The seamstress said they *could* do it but it would dramatically change the shape of the dress as well as cost a ton. I decided it was not worth it. I sold it on one of the websites the previous posters mentioned. I honestly would not risk it, and find out how much it will cost before you even try to ( mine was going to be about 1K to alter)
