Deciding colors/theme

Does anyone know what the new "hot" colors are for this year and any fun themes?  I want something different than the "everyday" but haven't had a chance to get to a bigger city to check it out! thanks!Smile

Re: Deciding colors/theme

  • I know it might seem boring, but you should just pick colors that you and your FI like.

Weddings don't have to have "themes" (i.e Rustic Chic, Winter Wonderland, Modern, Vintage, etc).

You'll want to select your venue and--generally speaking--pick decor that complements the venue and your personalities.
  • Yes, just go with what you like. You want to have a wedding that reflects YOUR style and personalities, not design your wedding around what's hot right now. Be careful of themes. When overdone, they look like a prom or child's party.

  • Ditto PP.  Just pick things that you and your FI like.

I also hate to break it to you but there are absolutely no "original" or "different" ideas out there for weddings.  Just go with what you love and that represents you as a couple.

  • Your profile says that your wedding isn't until Feb 2015. You have tons of time to think about colors. Start with one color you and your FI love and go from there.
  • I think you should use the colors that you and your fiance love, rather than what's "hot" in that season.

But, if you do want to know forecasted colors that are supposed to be on trend for the coming season, you should check out Pantone's projected color forecast. The will have a new forecast for each coming season.

  • Yay! You have lots of time to think, it sounds like.

I was completely befuddled about colors and theme. I was never one of those girls that had some kind of secret wedding scrapbook tucked away somewhere and I'm the sort of person who completely shuts down when presented with too many choices so I was completely unprepared for all this going in. If you're the same way, I would take a step back (as I said--it sounds like you have time to do it). Start an inspiration board. I know everyone does it but it actually is kind of helpful. I started a wedding board on Pinterest and just started pinning everything I liked in the beginning without thinking about it too hard. Eventually patterns started to emerge even though I thought I was being very random...those patterns were how we eventually found our colors and our theme.

It's true you don't "have" to do anything, but honestly--if you're like me, having some kind of focus does actually help you going forward because it starts narrowing your scope a little more, and makes it a lot easier to make decisions---and it also kind of helps your vendors learn something about your style which will help them serve you better. But you can have a theme and be thoughtful about it and true to yourself. It will work out, I promise.
