Cups or Strapless?

I'm trying to decide which will be better. My dress is strapless, and I'm a D cup, so I need to have support of some kind. Should I get a strapless bra/bustier, or have cups sewn into my dress? Is one more comfortable or more supportive than the other?

Re: Cups or Strapless?

  • I think a bra would be more supportive than cups would.  Go to a lingerie place and ask their opinion.  They may have special support cups that you can purchase to sew in.
  • I wore cups (I'm a large-ish C) and they were super comfy and supportive. Plus, I didn't have to deal with them sliding around, always a problem with strapless bras for me. If you're concerned about lack of support, I have heard of people using underwire cups, but mine were just thick foam.
  • I would would probably go the strapless bra route. But you could always explore both options before you decide.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I just got a final bill that included all of the work I had done.

The cups themselves are cheap, and they're pretty low-labor to sew in. I know, because my seamstress made a mess of them and I had to redo them myself (thankfully, it was easy). So I would not expect it to be expensive at all. Certainly cheaper than buying a longline bra.
  • If your dress is very fitted, you may not need/want a strapless bustier, cups may give you your desired lift and support-- I know with my dress one wouldn't fit!

  • Thanks! I was just curious because I know I want to sew cups into my dress! I wouldn't have it any other way. :)

  • I'm a D and had cups sewn in. My seamstress inserted underwires, and they were quite supportive. I was really pleased with my decision not to wear a bra under the gown.
