Veil Questions

Hi! I am in the process of researching veil options for my August 2012 wedding. I'm more than likely going to go with an Etsy vendor, for a variety of reasons.  I'm getting a cathedral length, crystal-embellished ivory veil. I'd love to hear some opinons on the following:

1. Do you prefer a metal or plastic comb? I think there are benefits to each, just wanted to see if anyone had an opinion on which they prefer.

2. Cut or pencil edge? My initial feeling was cut edge. Again, this is certainly a matter of personal preference, but I'm kind of indecisive on this and would love to hear some opinions.

Thanks!!

Re: Veil Questions

  • I have 2 veils. Both have metal combs (I haven't tried a platic comb so I just voted metal). The blusher is a cut edge plain and the chapel is a stain pencil edge. For a longer veil I suggest a pencil edge. I think they look better since feet and feet of tulle can look messy without some kind of definite edge, but that's just my preference.
  • I voted metal. My hair person said they stay in better, but I think either would work fine. I also voted cut edge, but that is a personal preference. I wanted a sheer look and didn't want the line of the pencil edge. Pencil edge is pretty too. I wonder if you could send a picture of your dress to the etsy vendor for her opinion. The crystals sound very pretty! Good luck!

  • I am using a plastic comb for mine! :) And I personally like the look of the cut edges.
  • Mine came with a plastic comb, and it works fine.  I'm only wearing it for the ceremony and pictures though, so I'm not really worried about it staying in for hours and hours.  If I was, I might have picked a metal comb.  I like the look of a pencil edge for a cathedral length veil, like PP said, lots of tulle can look messy without a definite edge.  :)

  • The metal combs do stay in better but even if you have a plastic comb, just tell your stylist to secure it with a couple bobby pins. It's super easy :O)
And btw, I prefer cut edges. It just looks softer to me :O)

  • Thank you so much for your input, everyone! It really does help. I think I'm going to go with my initial instinct and get a cut edge. Thanks again!
  • I don't even know what a cut edge veil is...lol
