Wedding rings w/ solitaires

I have a gorgeous 1/2 Ct. diamond solitaire ring, but I'm a little confused as to what kind of wedding ring I want/should get. Part of me thought I would want a diamond band to wear with it (like what Rachael Ray used to wear), but after trying a few on I am not much of a fan of that look. I also don't want the focus to be taken away from my main diamond ... because it's really pretty :-)

For those who have solitaire rings ... are you planning to get a plain band, or have a diamond one?

I've also strugged with this - I have the same type of engagement ring (1/2 ct solitaire) which is very delicate looking. I didn't like the channel set rings - my fiance pinpointed the reason well "they look like visors!" They actually are lovely rings but somehow I didn't like the look of a continuous line of diamonds. I also wasn't a fan of the pave set bands, which are quite intricate looking. And finally, a plain band was a little too plain. Basically I wanted something in between. So I ended up having a ring made - which is a thin band with 11 flush set diamonds, looks similar to this (except in white gold):

    Something to consider! happy hunting!

And as a final thought, since I really do like the look of my e-ring by itself, I'm considering moving it to my right hand after the wedding and continuing to wear it alone. I'll play around with it and see what I end up liking!
  • I have a pear shaped solitaire with side diamonds. I got a wedding band that has a little "V" on it, with diamonds in the front only. It looks nice with the diamond solitaire (not really a solitaire I guess).

I'd think a plain gold band in white or yellow gold would look fine under a solitaire. They sell them at any retail store, whether high end or low end.

    Good luck.
  • Have you gone to a jewelry store and tried on bands?  I would try on some and get a feel for it.

  • Agree, go try on bands. I was going to get a diamond band, then changed my mind to a plain band, then switched back to diamonds when I tried on this band

  • I tried on several bands and couldn't find any I liked.  I ended up getting one custom made with diamonds sort of recessed into a twisty design.  So there's just a bit of bling, but not too much.  I'm really happy with it.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • You could try something with a pattern ... here's mine (I have the matching e-ring, but it would add some visual interest if your e-ring's band is plain): http://danforthdiamond.com/women's-wedding-rings/3413/14K-White-Gold-2.2-mm-Engraved-Woman%27s-Wedding-Band/details.htm

  • I agree with Noodle-O. That's what I got too but in white gold.
I have a solitaire princess cut. As soon as I put that half eternity band on, I fell in love with the glitter. It does not take the focus away from my solitaire, it brings attention to it ;-)
Have fun shopping for your bands! it can be quite romantic :-)
  • Here's my engagement ring:

And my wedding band will look SOMETHING like this:

Keith and I were both born in February, so I want Amethysts for my wedding band.
