sash or no sash?

What type of dresses look great with a sash? I haven't tried on dresses yet, but just wondering.

Re: sash or no sash?

  • Totally depends on each individual dress. I had a drop waist gown that looked great with one, some empires gowns, A-lines.. It really just depends on how much detail the gown already has (or doesn't have), what shape YOU are (ie how the gown fits you) etc
  • What kind of dress are you looking for? The topic is quite wide though, it's be much easier to asnwer if you can point out a specific dress ;-)
  • My dress I thought looked AWFUL with a sash... but I've seen it pulled off beautifully.
  • It depends on the dress and the look the person wearing the dress is going for.  One of the dresses I loved would have looked great with a sash, but the one I'm going to get wouldn't.  Normally drop-waisted dresses, some mermaid dresses, and A-lines look good with sashes as long as the dress isn't already covered in detailing or beading.

  • Well, I'm really considering an A line or fitting gown. And it will definitely be lace! But appropriate for summer, as it will be hot. Does lace go well with sashes? I've seen some dresses I like, but not sure how to post them here from a mobile phone?

It really depends on the gown and what you want to accentuate about your figure.

I am wearing a lace, dropped-waist gown. I love to accentuate my natural waist, so I am adding a sash. It emphasizes an hourglass silhouette. Yes, lace and sashes can go together, as long as the sash pairs well with the dress.
  • I'm wearing a lace dress with a sash and I think it looks great!  My dress actually comes with a sash but its quite blingy, not really my style, especiall with an all lace, very traditional dress. But like pp, I wanted to accentuate my natural waist, so I picked out another sash with a floral applique that matches the floral lace motif of my dress.
