Wedding dress for outdoor/summer

I'm getting married in the evening in late August at an apple orchard in VA.   Is it a mistake for me to wear a full-length gown?  I've always loved mermaid-style.  Something like this (without the weird cape):

Would this be too dressy/hot/inappropriate for the setting?

Thanks!

  • No, I think that would be lovely. Don't worry too much about what your dress looks in relation to the venue. Look instead for a dress that makes you love the way you look.

I got married in a park in a full length gown with a train. I leaned towards chiffon, mostly because it was lighter, and I didn't get nearly as hot underneath the dress. But, it didn't look any less formal than any of the other gowns I tried on.  Wear what you love.  :)
  • I would worry about the fabric more than the style.  Late August is going to be HOT so I would try to find a dress that has a lighter fabric or a dress that doesn't weigh 50 pounds so that you are more comfortable.  I plan on getting married outside this summer and I am looking for a chiffon dress but I want it to be full length.  Good luck!

<div>Totally agree!!! I am getting married this summer in a outdoor venue too. First I was in hunt for a light weight gown with shorter train and less of a flare. But I finally decided to go with something completely different. It's only one day, probably less than 8 hours, go with the dress that you like, and rest of it, I am sure you can manage :)</div>
  • Thanks for the advice!! Glad to know I'm not the only one out there with this predicament.  I'll keep all this in mind when we go shopping!
