Bad idea to remove train?

Hey wardrobe-savvy brides, is it a bad idea to have a seamstress remove the train from my gown and make it an even hem all around?  My dress has vertical ruffles on the skirt, which I don't think would look good when bustled.  I'm also hoping that removing the train will give the effect of decreasing the overall volume of the skirt... I'm a small woman, and although I love the skirt, I don't want to be swallowed by it.  It's the J.Crew Waterfall gown, link below:

  • Do you have a pic of you in the gown? I think it is absolutely beautiful and the train really doesn't seem that long or "swallowing" judging by the J. Crew model. You can also meet with a seamstress and see if she can somewhat imitate how your dress will look bustled. That's what we did for mine, so that I could decide what style of bustle I wanted.

  • No picture of me in it yet.
The train is not so overwhelming on the model, who is probably 5'10" or so, but I'm 5'3"...so the skirt will need to be significantly shortened for me anyway.  Is it much more trouble to shorten the train if they're already shortening the skirt to fit my height?

These are questions for your seamstress. I agree with Dud's just have her bustle the train, in the long run it will be cheaper.

    Love the dress!

  • i HATE any kind of train so i say chop it off!!  i think having no train would be just as beauitiful.  if you have a skilled seamstress, she can make it work!

  • I saw a picture of my dress without the train (another bride had had that idea and posted the results online) and I didn't like it personally, but it's up to you!  I like trains so I wouldn't but that's just my opinion :)
