wedding dress shopping!

Should I go to another city to buy my wedding dress?? I live in Calgary, AB and have friends in Toronto, ON. They wanted me to go there for a week and go wedding dress shopping. I'm thinking it might be a bad idea because if I do find a dress wouldn't I have to go back to try it on, pick it, have alterations done? Suggestions?!!!

    Go there for fun, then if you find something bring it to places near you and see if they have it or if they could get it for you! Many shops will order samples of the dresses you like knowing they will sell off the rack! Good luck...

    If you buy it, you can have it shipped to you, and have it altered at a local alterations shop.

    Where will the wedding be?  Ideally it would be best to not have to ship the gown around because then you will likely have to get it pressed at the new location, and that is an extra cost.

    If you stick to the major designers that are available at lots of different stores (as opposed to some small independent designer) then you can shop in Toronto, find a dress you love, and then call the shops in Calgary to find a place that can order it for you.  Then you get to spend time with your friends doing the shopping-thing but you can do alterations and pick-up in Calgary.  And also you will pay less tax.
