Age appropriate bridesmaids dress... some young, some older.

I'm getting married October 2014 so I have plently of time to figure this all out.  I have four brides maids including my MOH.  I'll be 27 when I get married.  My girsl are all close in age to me and at the time of the wedding will be: MOH/Best Friend-27, Bridesmaids-- Sister-26, Sister-in-law-26.  I'm not worried about dressing them or picking appropriate dresses.  It's just that my youngest sister will only be 16.  I don't want to put her in something that's too sexy.  All the bridesmaids are all between 5'0"-5'4."  So a short dress is a must-above the knee.  But any tips on how to make all 3 bridesmaids look age appropriate without having the dresses be that different.  I'm cool with different necklines, etc as long as the dresses are all similar and aren't out doing myself or my MOH.  But any thoughts as far as dresses for girls right in between the junior bridesmaid/bridesmaid age line?

  • I might be prudish or something but, is "too sexy" wedding appropriate for any age?

This was sort of my reaction as well. She's sixteen, so it isn't as though she would look odd in a strapless dress (like say a 10 year old probably would). Most bridesmaids dresses aren't "sexy". Pretty, yes. Classy, some of them. But sexy isn't high on most lists. I'd just find something nice and she should look as fine as any of the other girls.

  • What I mean something that is appropriate for women in their mid-twenties isn't necessarily appropriate for a 16 year old.  I don't want anybody looking "too sexy."  I want them to feel pretty and confident in what they are wearing.  Just looking for tips because I want to make all of my girls to feel as happy and beautiful as I will on that day.
  • Go to David's and give them a color and a length and let them choose that way they can find a style that you like. Even for the 16 year old, they don't really have anything that I was call 'sexy.'
  • I agree with MissSunshine.  Give them a color and length, and let each BM pick their own dress. It is very rare that the same dress if flattering on every body type.
  • My BM were all different sizes and ages. Two were over 50, 2 teens, ranging in heights from 5'0" to 5'10", from size 4 to size 20. Our colors were black & white.  I just told them to find the best black dress they could find, I didn't even care if it was long or short, but they all chose short. I asked them to get a dress they loved and would wear again. Having them all match was not a priority to me. The only time it matters really is in pictures anyway.

    Here's how they looked

If you don't want to do something like that, I know that David's Bridal has some lines that have multiple different styles in the same color available.

My bridesmaids wore JCrew. Classic styling and fairly conservative.

Brief aside...but when I was 16 we wore strapless dresses to homecoming and prom that weren't so conservative!  I don't think you should worry much about "age appropriate" unless your sister herself has the concerns.

Also check out Watters or Wtoo.
  • Sue I'm doing that...just get black dresses.

I love how all the dresses are different in that photo. Actually, I love the dress on the right most.
