Match with boots?! Help!!

I came across this BM dress that is currently on clearance at David's. I was originally looking for a chiffon dress as they are all going to be wearing cowboy boots, but as this is a budget conscious group I thought this might be a good route. Has anyone seen David's Cotten Sateen in person?? Do you think this would look ok with cowboy boots? We live in a rural area and the closest David's is almost 2 hrs away and as this is online only, there probably wouldn't be any to try on anyways.

  • I agree with Retread. I don't think cowboy boots look good with nice dresses.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I agree with both Retread and Addie.

If you do decide to go the cowboy boot route and the boots aren't a staple of your BMs wardrobe, just remember that you will be shelling out the money for each pair.

Agreed with Retread. Cowboy boots and weddings don't really match.

I really like that dress, but why not let your bridesmaids pick out a dressy flat or sandal to wear instead?

If you insist on this idea, you could all take a few pictures with boots on. That is, if the bridesmaids all already own cowboy boots. If not, you should be purchasing the boots for them.
  • 1 BM actually already had boots, everyone else including myself bought the same pair we found on clearance for $15...they all loved the idea of wearing boots with short dresses and had no problem buying them as they were cheaper than heels anyways.

Our theme is rustic country (mason jars, burlap, etc) so boots would go. Guys are wearing vests, no jackets so everythig is more laid back.

  • I love the idea of cowboy boots with your bridesmaids dresses! It's hard to say if they'll go with that dress without seeing the particular boots... if you (or anyone you know) is decent with photoshop, maybe edit together a picture of the boots with the dress, so you can get a clearer visual.
  • I agree with everyone else, cowboy boots are for working on farms and should not paired with formal attire.  And even "casual" bridesmaid's dresses still qualify as formal attire.

But, having said that, I can see that are clearly set on going with this idea anyway.  The Davids Bridal is sateen sort of like a shiny cotton.   Not quite satin, but not quite regular cotton dresses.  I think they would go fine with the look you are trying to achieve.

Keep in mind, formal attire sizing is NOT the same as regular clothes.  If none of your BMs are going to be able to try this dress on, you should make sure everyone is measured and go by the size charts instead of their street clothes.  I had two BMs and one is about a 12 in street clothes and bought a 16 BM dress and the other is a 16 and bought an 18 in a different style of dress. Both from Davids Bridal.

Yes, boots would go with rustic country. They do not, however, go with formal dresses.

Any suggestions for what would go with boots then?? I've been looking for dresses that aren't too formal and haven't had much success online.

Cotton sun dresses.  Even better, printed cotton sun dresses.  The more casual the better.  Stay away from anything that has a shine to it.

  • I don't have a problem with the boots as long as your BMs don't mind, but I have seen that dress in person, and it is pretty shiny. Definitely more cocktail than country.

How about something in cotton, like this? I have it in a print, it's super comfy and figure flattering.

  • I like Bunni's dress suggestion and I agree with PP's while it's not my personal style to pair boots and weddings together, if you want go with it, I'd choose something a little less formal.

Looking at other places than bridal shop would be a great idea.

Assuming your color is red perhaps these dresses may work too:

  • I agree itzMs. I don't think boots go with any dress.  Unless it's maybe a denim skirt.  Try Target though. They have some simple sundresses that might work
  • I personally hate cowboy boots in general and so obviously don't like them with dresses, but will concede that I think some cotton sundresses, especially in a cute pattern, which you could even mix and match, I think, make me hate the look less.

  • Oh if you don't mind pattern, I think this one is cute. It is significantly less forgiving than a lot of the other suggestions, though.

Just looking at the dress you had posted and inmy personal opinion, I don't think boots would go well with it. Maybe a more casual, flowy dress would suit boots better.
  • Bunni I'm so glad you posted those links! I think I just found my shower dress. Thanks!
  • haha, you're welcome. Which one did you pick?

  • I see alot of brides pair chiffon dresses with cowboy boots, and they look fine. Honestly, it's your wedding. If your vision is a formal dress and boots, go for it, it' goes with your theme.
