$300 hem?

I was charged $300 for a hem - should I go back in and ask for some of my money back?? That seems outrageous!! Its a maggie sottero and it DOES have layers, but seriously. not that many.

Re: $300 hem?

  • You didn't ask how much it would be before you contracted their services?  Which dress do you have?
  • That is outrageous, but if you didn't ask beforehand, you're kind of stuck. :( If you want, you can ask for an explanation but I highly doubt you'll get any kind of refund.
  • that's too much!  At the bridal store where I work (Stephanie's bridal) we do free hemming!  You should have checked before they began cutting.
  • I also got an alterations quote before I agreed to anything.  If the dress has layers or any detailing at the hemline, hemming is a much more intensive (and thus expensive) prospect.  I actually wore 4" heels to avoid having an expensive hem done.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Ditto aerin, I found shoes that worked so I didn't have to have it hemmed.  Mine would have been one of the bust hems, where they take it up from the middle of the dress instead of just cutting some off the bottom, which is insanely expensive.  The more complicated the hem, the more it's going to cost.
