Hair with this dress? (PIP)

I just had my first fitting, so excited!  But I still can't decide on the hair.  I am debating between a retro down look (like January Jones below) and an sleek up-do.  Thoughts?  Due to stylist problems it may be a DIY hair style.  Could I maybe pull that off?

Re: Hair with this dress? (PIP)

  • With respect, I disagree that the sleek 40's look is easy. I'm a hairdresser and makeup artist, and I can tell you that, not only is there more to it than meets the eye, most people don't have the kinds of hair cuts necessary to make the sleek, vintage-style curls work in this day and age. We do a lot of layers now, and back then, it was blunt cuts all the way. I really would recommend finding a stylist who can help you with this look, or accepting that it will not look like January Jones' on you.

It is beautiful, btw, but it's just a pet peeve of mine when people assume that a simple-looking style is simple to achieve. I get paid a lot of money for a reason. ;) Find a good stylist, or try to go with an easier, more modern style that you feel confident doing yourself. And practice, practice, practice!

  • Just gotta say, that is the cutest dress ever!  Love it!
  • Love the dress!  Who is it by?  I would go with something simple for your hair, that will still look elegant enough for your wedding day.
  • Thanks!  It's Melissa Sweet's "Maddie".  I am working on finding a stylist, but it has been hard since my wedding is in the AM.  I guess most people aren't big fans of sunrise hair and makeup sessions.  I appreciate the comments!
