Shortening a Wedding Dress

I am very nervous about shortening my dress to tea length. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Re: Shortening a Wedding Dress

  • I had my dress hemmed to tea length at my bridal shop for $75. Granted, it was marketed as tea-length, but tea length on a model was ankle length on me. I was very happy with it. I'd make sure your seamstress is familiar with doing this, since it isn't super common.

  • I had my reception dress shortened to "opera length", which is below the knee in front, and a bit longer in the back. There was a layer of chiffon over a couple of lining layers, and it turned out beautifully. A qualified seamstress can do this.
  • I am glad you responded with pictures!! I love your dress, Bunni and it looked great on you! I am hoping all will turn out well, I am just worried I will end up hating it. I assume I can always put stuff underneath it to make it poof like yours? Thanks for the feedback!
