Do I HAVE to have a Wedding Band?

The ring I'm looking at has diamonds on the side of the band (so you can only see them from the sides, not by looking at it from the top - looks like a solitaire from the top), and the band itself is rather substantial width.  I have very small hands and don't want a giant ring set to overwhelm my fingers.  I also don't want to cover those side diamonds since that is one part of the style of the ring that I really wanted.  I really like how the engagement ring looks by itself!

So...do I HAVE to have a wedding band?  I know it's traditional, but I'm not necessarily looking to stick with tradition!  And then if I don't get one, do I give him back the engagement ring before the ceremony so he can put that on my finger again?

THANK YOU!

Re: Do I HAVE to have a Wedding Band?

  • The only issue with only having an engagement band is people constantly asking tyou when you are getting married :)
  • No, you don't have to have a wedding band.  A lot of ladies have been on here with similar situations.  Some ladies decide to get a wedding band and wear their e-ring on their right hand.

  • Could you get a really small band? I think people would ask you when you are getting married all the time if you didn't have one.

  • Get a small band.  My MIL has a very understated plain gold band.  It is very thin and very beautiful.

  • It sounds like we have similar e-rings.  Mine is a solitaire with smal diamonds on the sides (that can only be seen from the side).  I thought I wanted a diamond band, but when I tried them on, I found that they cheapened the look of the e-ring.  I decided in the end to go with a very plain band.  You can still see the side diamonds over the band on my ring.

  • The only thing you have to have is a marriage license.  If you don't want a wedding band, just have your FI use the e-ring for the ceremony.
  • Ditto pp's. Its entirely up to you. I think that it is sometimes easier to wear just the band esp since I am a preschool teacher. I like having the option of wearing it with the e-ring or without and that is why I chose not to get them saudered together.
  • I'm not having one. I just don't like the look of my ring with another band, it looks...uneven to me.

  • I hate the look of my vintage engagement ring with bands. Yuck.  I think it totally ruins the delicacy of my ring and it looks clunky. Besides the sides are completely filigreed and I would cover that up. I couldn't give a hoot if a person asks me when I'm getting married. I'd rather love my ring.

  • No!  Absolutely not.  You do not have to wear a wedding band.  Do what you like.

    Cheers!
