holdin those girls up there

When I bought my gown I worked with 2 different consultants on 2 different days. One told me that the bra I was wearing would work very well. The other said I needed a bustier because the strapless bra would pull down. I need someone with experience to tell me which they'd go with and why. I don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need the bustier and I'm not chesty so I don't have to worry about big boob issues. Thanks!

Re: holdin those girls up there

  • My dress has a built in corset, and I know you can have that done as well in most dresses. I have heard good things about having the cups sewn in as well. Bustiers never seem to work for me either, they always slouch down and then I am pulling and tugging to get them to stay up all night.
  • I've actually never worn a bustier, but I don't think you'll need one. A good strapless bra shouldn't fall, and a well-constructed dress won't let it fall. You can also get cups sewn in as opal mentioned; it's a good option for girls who aren't super chesty. I wore a strapless bra because I needed the extra boost in the chest and it was fine.

  • DD has cups sewn in as well as the appropriately sized crinoline so she won't have to wear either as an additional garment. She is fairly busty but these cups fit and hold very well.
  • I do tend to have my strapless bras fall a little (like 1 cm). I wore a bustier because I had a low back bra, and it didn't sag. If you are worried about your dress slipping, wearing a bustier could help hold it up. If your bra never slips, you could be okay though.
  • I have a strapless dress and david's bridal suggested what they call a long bra.  I'm guessing it's the same as a bustier, but it worked so well for me!  I was absolutely opposed to strapless dresses because I didn't want to have to worry about pulling it up all night.  The long bra really worked!  and they even have padded ones ;)
