Short Dress on bride with a Tuxedo on groom

I love knee length and tea length dresses, but my fiance is wearing a tux at our wedding, and my mom thinks it's weird for me to wear a shorter dress while he's wearing a tux.

If i go with a long dress, it will probably be this one: http://www.amykuschel.com/gowns/kennedy

The short dress which i absolutely love is this one, and they're going to take the sleeves off

Any advice? Or even if you like one dress over the other.. any help is appreciated!

  • I wore a tea-length dress with my groom in a tux. I don't think it looked weird, but i may be biased.

I think your tea-length dress is prettier, and formal enough for him to wear a tux. It's not like it's a sundress.

    Here's how we looked:

  • It's definitely not traditional, but I'd be fine with it if that's your style.

    btw...Bunni you are so pretty!
  • I like both of your dress selections, but I do think that shorter dress might look a bit odd paired with a tuxedo.  Can your groom just wear a suit instead?
  • I'm with cmgilpin.  I LOVE the short dress, it's just my style.  I even like the sleeves.  But I don't think it's formal enough to pair with a tuxedo.  It would be perfect with a suit.  I assume that you are having an dressy evening wedding if your FI is wearing a tux.  If you are having an afternoon wedding, the short dress and a suit are better options.

If he's dead set on the tux, I think the long dress -- which is also beautiful - is a better fit.
  • Thanks for your advice everyone!  I guess my fiance is pretty weird when it comes to guys - he's way more into clothes and fashion than I am, and has been dreaming of getting a custom made tux since before he even proposed.  He's been great about letting me control most of the wedding (great/not caring? who knows :))  but I don't want to take that away from him.  I don't think i could if i wanted to...

I think i feel the most comfortable in the short dress, and it's the most "me" but at the same time, a wedding dress should be your chance to be more glamourous right? I think i'm going to go with the long dress..  Thanks again for your help everyone!!
