My dress is in already...?

Did anyone else's dress come in waaaaaay earlier than you thought?

I ordered my dress less than a month ago and they told me it would be in around June. A few weeks later I called and made an appointment to look at BM dresses and asked about my dress and they said it would be more like early April. Today I got a message that my dress came in this morning.

It's kind of freaking me out...

Re: My dress is in already...?

  • Someone else your size probably cancelled an order that was already in process, no reason to worry. I'd just be excited about getting it.

And just because I like dresses, what one did you get? link/pics?

  • Where did you order it from?
    Anniversary
  • Mine from DB came in within SIX DAYS.  I was told 3 1/2 months.
  • Mine came in pretty quickly from David's Bridal.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I think sometimes dress shops tell you it'll take a little bit longer to create a sense of urgency, so that you feel more pressured to commit and order your dress right away.  I don't see it being any kind of issue, unless you get there and it's not what you were expecting.
  • I ordered mine on sept 1st 2012 and it's still not in. I'm getting impatient lol

This but I also think they tell you a bit longer to cover their butts just in case your dress doesn't come in when they tell you it will.

I think most wedding dresses come in earlier then expected.  I ordered my dress at the end of September and they told me 6-8 months.  I got a call at the beginning of December (about 3 months later) that it was in.

  • I got it from a fairly large bridal salon, but not huge. I called them back and talked to my original consultant and she said there definitely is a dress in the back for me, but their computer still says it's shipping in April. Her manager is going to look into it and call me tomorrow, soooooo we'll see?

  • I ordered my Mori Lee in February and was told June, it arrived the second week in March. I was totally freaked out too.  I found out a few things. First, if they have a cancellation, they will send you the dress, as Bunni mentioned.  Second, for newer designs, some designers will fulfill bride's orders first, and salon "sample" orders second.   So, if they happened to have a dress in process in your size, you get it before the salon gets their sample.  Lastly, some designers (especially higher demand designers/styles) will begbegin making of a bunch of their most popular gowns/sizes because they know they will sell.

Moral of the story, nothing to be worried about.  But, I spent a week freaking out too. :)
  • Its possible that the manufacturer had made multiples of the dress that you ordered and just happened to have one in stock that they were able to ship immediately.

  • Make sure it's not a sample that's been tried on by alot of people.
  • My weddng dress took every bit of the 8 months they said it would, but my BM dresses came in two months faster than they were supposed to (different salons). I guess it just depends on when the order is priced and what the designer has in stock. I wouldn't be freaked out.

omg me too!!! i actually went shopping for my dress VERY early! i ordered my dress in Feb 2012 and they didn't order the dress until late in the year because of time they had since my wedding is not til sept. 2013. • Ugh I hope they didnt do that to me! If it takes the full eight months it should be in by April.... So I'm crossing my fingers I'm just getting anxious. I think that may be it bc I bought my shoes and jewelry already
  • Ok, the manager called me this morning and said Allure sometimes has dresses in stock and that's what happened here. So I get to try it on this weekend after looking at BM dresses! And for whoever asked, the dress is Allure 8706. But I hate the way it looks on that model haha

  • I ordered a Maggie Sottero in November, they said it'd be in in March, and they called me a month ago to let me know it was ready. I'm not in any rush to try it, but I was pleasantly surprised.
