Online Wedding Dresses

As most who are looking at this probably already know, there are quite a few 'knock off' wedding sites where you can buy cheap dresses. I'm looking through reviews to see if this is worth a shot in trying. I've seen both honestly horrible reviews, and some good reviews. I prefer to see pictures of peoples dresses if they've bought them. I do want something simple and elegant as i'm having a desitanation wedding, but I also don't want it to look super cheap. Anyone have comments on these sights (specifically in wedding dress) <- online website.

Re: Online Wedding Dresses

  • You'd be better off looking at House of Brides and Pearl's Place.  Those are the two sites I know of that are legit.

You can also check out oncewed.com and preownedweddingdresses.com
  • I just put an order in for my dress from an Ebay company located in China.  Once I receive it I will do a full review (good or bad).  Here is an incredible thread all about replica dresses from China.

  • It depends - 2 major questions to ask yourself

1.) Do you have the time to order another if it doesnt work

2.) Do you have the money to waste if it turns out to be junk

THIS. I've ordered dresses from China before (not wedding dresses), and it's a total crapshoot. I got one that is beautiful and fits great. Another one had a really funky neckline that was way different from the photo. Fortunately, I was able to fix it myself.
  • I am ok with buying online from a legit dealer. I am not OK with ripping off a designer.
  • I wouldn't recommend it.   I ordered my first dress off of a knock-off site in China.  Their sight had a return policy, had fairly good reviews, and promised me a dress within 15-20 days.  My dress arrived 40 days after I ordered it, it didn't look like the picture, the fit was way off (kept bunching up in the waist), and they wouldn't honor thier return policy.  I ended up selling the dress on ebay for much less then it cost me.  My best friend (who is also getting married this year), bought a dress off of a different knock-off sight in China, received her dress and it was ivory, not diamond white like she ordered, and it was two sizes too big.  Also, the beading isn't attached well and is already falling off.  That sight also did not honor their return policy and now she's stuck with a dress that she has to pay a ton of money in getting fixed and is still the wrong color.  I think you might get lucky with a dress, but I would advise you to keep looking for a good deal here in the U.S. from a reputable place.  Good luck to you! :)

  • When you say reasonable prices for the alfred angelo and mori lee dresses do you have a reference range? i'd much rather by a reasonable dress I can try on first, but have found that in order to do this I'd need to spend atleast $500-$1,000 without alterations.
  • p.s Thanks everyone for your input!!
  • i'm having a destination wedding too. i bought an ivory bridesmaid's dress because all the bridal gowns i tried on were too heavy/hot for my outdoor wedding. it was less than $300.

i suggest you do what i did or look at nordstrom, macy's, white house black market, bcbg, and j. crew.

  • My friend tried it and threw it in the garbage, woud not even donate it to Salvation Army as it was so bad.  I have not seen one that would be the least good.  You can get real gowns at discounts from Pearl's Place, Netbride and Jay's and why chance it for a few less dollars?  Baffles me.
  • To the best of my knowledge, Mori Lee's gowns start around $400. You can get them even cheaper if you buy pre-owned. I don't have any experience with AA, but maybe someone else can help you out with that?
  • I would buy it but only if the price was very reasonable and i could read some reviews of the site/dresses before buying

However if you really want a designer dress for cheap, i suggest getting a used one on preownedweddingdress.com or a similar site.
A lot of times people sell new dresses there too. I saw Vera Wang dresses on there for $1000.

You can also try sample sales.
    Good luck

  • For myself, it's less about the designer dress and more about the price. I just want something inexpensive because I don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars on a dress that you only where for a little while once. Sure, the day only happens once in a life time, but why be broke because of that?

The bridesmaid dress thing is a great idea except i definitely want a train and it's been harder to find bridesmaid dresses this way (i've also looked into prom dresses as it is that time of the season) definitely more reasonable and perhaps something i should look into more thoroughly.

Thanks for the other places to look. I went on the preowned sight this morning and there seems to be some really reasonable dresses on there.

  • See, it's not just about the label: when you buy from a knock-off dress site, you're looking at a photo of something that that company didn't make. Often times what arrives doesn't in any way resemble the photo, doesn't fit, or is completely and totally unwearable. It's next to impossible to get your money back when that happens. Most of the positive reviews on the sites are fake, and when a company piles up enough negative reviews, it just changes its name and starts selling crummy dresses again.

If you don't want to spend a lot, check out David's $99 dresses, or their other budget gowns. Check out preowned gown sites. Heck, I'm selling a Mori Lee for $200 myself. There are tons of great deals.

i didn't want a train, but my dress has a small one. it's bill levkoff #430 (i added a sash and will remove the halter straps). vera wang (for david's bridal) and j. crew both have a dress similar to the one i bought, and i believe they have a train too. there are plenty of options out there.

  • Also check out sample sales at the bridal salons in your area.  You can sometimes get really great deals at those.  I think there are a few charitable organizations that sell donated wedding dresses.  I can't think of the names off the top of my head, but do a google search, and I'm sure you'll find something.

This.  And designer fakes are illegal.
  • Most Group USA/Camille LaVie wedding dresses are in the $400-$600 range.

They also have sales from time to time. Mine is normally $650 and I got it for $550 including tax and shipping (they even special-ordered it in white for me).
