Personal Question

How many brides are planning on wearing spanx (or some other body shaping underwear) under your dress?

Pros: keeps my tummy tucked in and thighs slimmed, also I'm no a size 0 so my thighs rub together, so with an outside wedding I wont have to worry about chaffing

Cons: outside wedding and it might get hot under my dress, not sexy, going to the bathroom is already going to be hard enough!

Re: Personal Question

  • I am.  My dress around my hips is the tiniest bit tight.  Its cheaper for me to buy spanx than to have the dress let out.  I'm with you on the outside wedding and no chaffing!  ANother plus for me.
  • I considered it, but my dress has so much structure that I don't need to.

I'm going to use either Lady Anti-Monkey Butt or Body Glide for Her Anti Chafing to deal with that issue and Fresh Breasts to deal with the boob sweating issue.

We have had several chafing/sweating dicussions lately :)

  • Ha! I didn't even think about boob sweat. I might have to go no bra because my dress might not fit in the bust with a bra on. My dress is A-line so the one thing it's really doing is hiding my lower tummy. Ug I'm dreading sweat!
  • Oh man.  Just when I think I have everything down to a science on what I'm wearing.

and thought maybe something like that would be good, but just not an entire dress of it.  I still have looking around to do.

I'm having an outside wedding, and am afraid it's going to be a million degrees.  *sigh*
  • I wore them for my outdoor, Florida wedding in late May just because I didn't want to have to worry about my thighs chafing.  It wasn't too bad with it being hot.

  • I will be!
Heat is definitely a possibility, but I'm hoping that since my wedding will be in the later evening, it won't be unbearably hot.
I also know that there are some spanx that have a special "hole" so you don't have to pull them down to go to the bathroom.

  • I plan to specifically for chaffing issues - i'd be more concerned with my thighs chaffing and walking funny than a little sweat.

  • None for me

My dress won't be so form-fitting as to make them useful for looks purposes (sleeves help a lot with this), and I'm actually worried about being cold at my November wedding.
  • My dress has an "almost" empire waist and ballgown from there down so I'm going back and forth.  I think the top is structred enough to suck what needs to be sucked in sucked and I think any pooch from where the top stops down will be ballgown.

I've worn them when I've tried on the dress but once the dress comes in in my size I may try it without the spanx.

  • I have a leftover baby pooch that no amount of diet or exercise will get rid of so I don't have much of an option, I'm going to have to wear shapewear. I'm getting married at the end of summer in Texas, so I'm just going to have to search for the lightest possible shapewear out there, but I will be wearing some!
  • Definitely no Spanx for me.  It was WAY too hot for that, and I've found in wearing them for other occasions that if you buy the lower end ones (Target, or Walmart, I think) and you're wearing it for long enough, it starts to be much more uncomfortable than just skin-on-skin.  The lower end ones are actually thicker, too, and don't minimize as much as you think they should.

  • I think I've decided to wear them. I don't think I will really need them for my dress (it's a-line) but for the chafing issue. I know some bride have worn shorts under their dress but I don't think that would work. Does anyone know where you can actually buy the spanx brand in stores, or are they only avaliable online?
  • I dont think ill need to some my dress is alineish/ballgownish and comes out at my trouble areas (aka tummy & hips), but I still have a ways to go to decied haha.

  • I was GOING to and bought some.. but it turned out that my dress fit like a glove so wearing them actually ADDED bulk rather than took away.

Do it. It's these types of occasions that they were made for. Have you tried your dress on with a pair and without? THat might help you decide what is best.
  • When my dress first came in I tried it on with them on. And I really didn't see a differenec because it's a-line and doesn't hug my hips or tummy. But the next time i'll see my dress is at my first fitting and I would hate to not wear them and then the dress look aweful and think we need more alterations that we actually do. Plus the pair I have now only go up to my natural waist so the curl and fall down when I sit. I need a new pair that goes all the way up to under my bust line.
  • Uh.. yeah... definitely not good. If you choose to wear spanx DEFINITELY get a new pair.. I hate it when it does the curling thing! aaah!

I would suggest that when you go to your fitting you go with them on, try the gown on, then pull them off (since it's faster taking off than putting on) and try the  gown on again. That will help you ultimately decide. It's all about your comfort.. If you're worried about crazy sweating in them, how do you feel about needing to use the restroom... Imagine pulling them back up when you're all sweaty O.o That would take forever... lol
I say if you try on your gown next and don't see an issue, don't bother.
  • I was going to...but when I tried it on with my dress you could see the seam of the pair I had going right down my stomach. Plus I think I would have passed out from the heat if I had kept them on. If you're comfortable and they look ok under your dress I'd say go for it! I've seen spanx before at Dillard's (I think).

  • Honestly, the week or weekS prior to your wedding, you're not gonna eat so alotta that weight is gonna be gone.  especially in the summertime!

  • I plan to (although I haven't started shopping yet).  I plan to wear them shopping to help get in and out of dresses more comfortably.  If it doesn't seem necessary I can always take it off, as PP said.
You can find Spanx anywhere...I've seen them at dept stores, lingerie stores, etc.  I got mine at an independent lingerie store.
And Elyse-I have a pair that goes up to my bustline, and they still roll.  It comes with little hooks to attach to your bra though, so that might help.  It's quite a contraption!
