please help! can't decide which dress

okay, so today was the day of dress shopping and trying on everything. (okay, I lied, about 8 or 9 dresses) But, I have a dilemma. I'm one of those people who doesn't go to 10 different places to try on 100 different dresses, but I have fallen in love with 2. I just can't decide which one I like better. If I could have any feedback or opinions, I'd greatly appreciate it :)

Option 1:

has a lace up back that my mom would replace with our crimson/apple red color. It also has the pick-up ruffles which I adore and nice princess detailing on the bodies. It is also taffeta, making it fairly lightweight and easy to move around in.

Option #2:

This one has a princess bodice as well, with one breast side (I guess you'd describe) being undecorated and almost pleated, as some of the bodice is. It matches with the top part of the bridesmaid dreesses as well. It also has a somewhat ruffled or pick-up look to it and also the tulle peeking out from underneath with embellishments on it as well. I wish I had a closer picture of the actual detail because it is beautiful as well.

Soo, my question is, which either a) looks better b) would be more memorable or c) would be better in pictures for memories and what not.
Please and thank you!

Re: please help! can't decide which dress

  • I really like the way the first one ruffles.  I'm not a fan of the tulle sticking out of the second one.
  • When I opened up this post I thought it was going to be easy to choose. When I saw the first one I thought it looked beautiful. Then I saw the second one and thought that one was too. It's a tough decision and you look great in both so you can't go wrong. But I think I like the second one a little better. I think it's mostly because parts of the pickups look strange to me (and I usually like pickups)...

  • Thank you both for your input. I like different parts of both of them. I love the top of the first one, but the rest of the 2nd one. I originally didn't like the tulle of the second one, but with it pressed and steamed they'd both look a little better. It's gonna be a tough decision to say the least. My only concern with the 1st one also is that the train isn't that long and I'm a big fan of trains in pictures considering I'll have an inside wedding and great scenery. I still have time to decide.

  • I would bring pictures of both to bridal shops and see if you can find one dress with your favorite parts of both...

  • They both look beautiful on you. You really couldn't go wrong with either. So I'll just tell you what I like about each one, hopefully that will help. I love the top of the first one that stands out the most to me and the fit of it (the bottom over takes the top for me). But  the second one is a bit simpler (meaning not much beading, etc) and the bottom is beautiful and fits you wonderfully.

I would have to ask, do you want something thats simpler or do you want something thats more how do you put it flashy? I guess thats the word.

    They're both beautiful.
  • I think they are both beautiful! However, I like the second one better, I'm all about the wow factor and being remembered! The pick up are very pretty, but a lil over done! I The second one is stunning! :)
  • Considering for prom and all that in high school I never went flashy or princessy like I had always dreamed, I really want it to be princessy on the top or bodice part and I had always dreamed of having a corset top since I was little, but I didn't want that thought to ruin any of my other options. And yes, I would like something a little over the top, just because it's actually "me" and I was told to get something you'd never wear anywhere else and it helps make it memorable. I never expected the searching to be so hard. My mom and 3 bridesmaids liked the 2nd one better, but I like how comfortable the 1st one is and the top was my favorite. I still have 5 more days to decide. (Side note: I'd prefer to stay at the same shop because my bridesmaids get a better discount if I purchase my dress there)

Thanks again everyone. It definitely helps hearing honest opinions!

It sounds like you like the first one better. You look great in both dresses. If you really like the first one you should definitely go for it! It's about what YOU like.

  • I absolutely LOOOVE the first dress on you.  You look beautiful in BOTH but I like the first better.
He that findeth a wife, findeth a GOOD THING!! small2 small Photobucket
  • I tried on dresses that were exactly like the ones that you did- I tried them on at Davids Bridal, not sure if that is where you went- but they both are beautiful dresses. I would have to say the first one, but I love the ruffles on those dresses more than the princess pouf. I think either way you are going to look amazing! One thing that you could do is try sitting down and see which one feels the best that way- you will be sitting for the dinner and you dont want something horrible to sit in :) GL

  • Yes, I went to David's Bridal, too. It's convenient and fairly easygoing. After thinking about it the few days, I think I'm going with the 1st dress only because it'll be a little more figure flattering whether I gain any weight or not. (hopefully not). The second dress makes me feel a little bit like a triangle because I have a very short torso. It looks beautiful on others though. But I think I've finally made my decision :)

  • I hate it seeing tulle on a skirt, so I voted for #1.
  • Just an update, I went with the 1st dress and it is now hanging in my room. Yes, it does kinda look like whipped cream and ruffles, but it's kinda "me" and I like that it made me feel a little bit taller than I really am and it didn't shorten my torso like others. My mom is making my veil, buying a tiara, and adding red ribbon for the lace up, so I think I'll be very happy. Thank you everyone for your input.
