ordering wedding dress online?

So I found the dress I want... its at davids bridal... but I found it online for hundreds cheaper! But, getting it at the store means free alterations... online well not too sure... should I just splurge for the in store? Or save the money online and do custom sizing?

Where did you see you get free alteraions if you buy from the DB store? This is not true.

I suggest you go try on dresses before you spend your money, what you fall in love with online may not be best suited for you.

    <div>kd is absolutely corect.</div><div>
</div><div>I purchased my dress at DB - no free alterations included.</div><div>
</div><div>I tried on the dresses i thought I wanted and they were not right for me, trying them on makes a big difference.  You also need to consider that a bridal gown size is NOT the same as your normal clothes.  I wear a 14/16 in regular clothes, DB ordered a 18W for my wedding dress and it was a pretty darn good fit.</div>

  • David's Bridal dresses are only sold on David's Bridal website and stores. If you found the exact dress for much cheaper online, it's probably a knock off. Please read the sticky at the top to check the website.

That said, I also agree with PP that you need to try on any dress you consider buying first. You'd be amazed at what you think you like versus what actually looks good. Wedding fashion is NOTHING like regular fashion!

  • Also, most times DB alterations are MORE expensive any other seamstress in the area.

Was the online dress also through DB online, or a separate site?

I would get the free alterations- and any stipulations- in writing, because that sounds fabulous; I would definitely buy your dress from their store or the DB website.

David's Bridal does not offer free alterations. They DO offer "in house" alterations.  Someone screwed up.  DB almost always overcharges for their alterations.

With that said though, buying a dress online is risky. Most of the online sites you are probably looking at are knockoffs and the chances of the dress being the same quality, fit or fabric is pretty slim.  They are made by a seamstress in China looking at a picture and trying to recreate the dress.    Read the FAQ at the top of this page, or just cruise this website for a while and you see horror stories of people buying knockoff dresses.  Every once in a while, someone gets lucky with a knockoff, but the horror stories outweigh the positive stories by the hundreds.

This, I have never heard of ANY salon offering in free alterations. You may have misunderstood them when they said,  In house alterations. But, DB is notorious for expensive alterations.

Expand your search of gowns to local salons near you.

  • Just to add to PPs (everything they said was spot-on), if you've already tried the dress on, and you already know your correct size IN THAT DRESS (not your normal size), then you could order online from DB's website (sometimes they have web specials) or even try to find the dress used from a reputable website like recycledbride.com, preownedweddingdresses.com or oncewed.com

That's the only real way to "order a dress online".  From a reputable store or pre-owned, and after you've tried it on and are sure that it's the right style for you.
