HELP! Need to GLAM up my dress!!

Hi there.....

Maybe I'm having a meltdown. Below is a picture of my dress (Maggie Sottero Gabor). LOVE LOVE IT! However, I want to "glam" it up.

Sash or No Sash: I was thinking about a ML type sash (ehh). Was thinking about a crystal-sparkly type belt type belt. Or adding a brooch at the top to the left or to right?

Veil or No veil: Being that I'm an older bride, I not sure if I should wear my cathedral veil or go for a birdcage type veill. Or a real flower?

Jewlery: I have a great pair of pearl-crystal chandlier earrings. Wondering to add a necklace or just go with the earrings.

(head in my hands) Aggg!  I dont know. I think I'm spazzing....lol

thanks for letting me vent

Re: HELP! Need to GLAM up my dress!!

  • I LOVE your dress.  It is beautiful, I think it's glam all by itself.  If you added a sash, I would add the sparkly type belt, or something really simple with the brooch.  If you wear a sash, it would cover up the buttons in the back though.  Personally if it were me, I would go with the cathedral veil if you wanted a little something more.  And depending on how long your earrings are and if your hair will be up or down, I would wear the necklace as long as it wont look too busy.  I hope I helped!! I think the dress is beautiful the way it is, and jaws will drop either way!
  • 1. No sash- like pp said, it would cover up the buttons.

    2. No birdcage- I don't think the vintage birdcage look goes with the dress. A finger-tip length veil would also be nice if you didn't want to go with the full cathedral.

    3. If your earrings are chandeleir length, definitely do not wear a necklace. It would just be too much, especially since the neckline is straight across. I actually think the necklace that the model is wearing in your link is way too chunky for the dress. If you want more glam, you can get a thick, blingy bracelet (similar to that necklace in the photo).

  • Wow, that is a gorgeous dress! I do think you are overthinking this, because it is lovely just by itself.

I think what type of veil you have depends on the look & feel of your wedding. Are you having a full out ceremony with an aisle & everything? Is it outdoors? What will you be comfortable in? How are you wearing your hair? What's your personal style, apart from your wedding?

I too am an older bride, and this dress screams "old hollywood". I'd think a sequined, feather, or beaded flower, or a real one like a gardenia in your hair would be fabulous. If you want a veil, attach it separately from the flower or with the flower. You could go with any length that matches the style of the ceremony, and I'd take it off for the reception.

For jewelry, I'd probably go with a necklace that hits the collarbone, either pearls or a pearl-rhinestone mix with shorter earrings. If you like chandelier type  earrings, then a simple necklace to match, or perhaps something vintage from a family member that is simple, or no necklace.

    Good luck
