Should I buy a new dress???

Hi fellow knotties,

My original wedding was schduled for August 2013, but my fiance is a Coast guard, so we had to postpone our wedding to December 2013.

My original wedding theme was a vintage garden tea party, and I already got a dress which will be perfect for a summer garden wedding. However my entire wedding plan has been changed. Now it is a Christmas/ winter wonderland theme, and the place will be winery.

I'm bit not sure for my dress. The dress that I've got from David't bridal is absoultely beautiful, but there was another dress that I really loved. I only gave up that dress because I thought it wasn't suitable for casual outdoor summer wedding. It was bit puffy and heavy tulle lace skirt dress. However my new wedding is now indoor winter wedding, and I can't get the dress that I've gave up out of my head!!! I can buy the new dress about $900 from second hand dress sites. I paid about $550 for my first dress and will sell it somewhere around $400 if I buy the new dress.

I'm paying my own wedding, and I want to get the second dress, but I feel like I'm wasting money at the same time. How do you think??? Should I have to buy another dress and sell my first dress?? I can't decide!!!

Here are the dresses...

This is the dress that I bought for my original summer wedding. I didn't like the front too much, but the back was so beautiful that I couldn't resist...

This is the dress that I gave up, because I thought that I will have a summer wedding at that time...

How do you think??? I desperately need advices!!!! Thank you so much!!!

  • I've got to be honest, I dont see anything specifically "summer" about your first dress. I think the other 2 are more summery than your original.

I love your original dress and think it would be perfect. Maybe buy a shrug?

I've also never saw the need for a second dress. I wore my dress for almost 12 hours and I loved every minute of it, I wanted to wear it as much as possible, I'd spent a good amount of money on it.

Well we dont usually advise people to buy second dresses, but if you feel that strongly that this dress fits your theme better, go for it!

They are all beautiful, and I'm sure you should be able to sell the other dress, it is gorgeous.

    Good luck!

    Agreed.

  • I love the dress you own and stick to it...

I agree. I don't get why brides switch dresses at a reception. I saw a 4 brides episode where they mentioned the ceremony was 13 minutes long and she switched dresses for reception...why on earth would anyone buy a dress to only wear it 13 minutes long? Just don't get that
  • I like the dress you currently own far more than the dress you're considering purchasing.  It's beautiful.  That keyhold back is stunning.
  • I love the dress you already own too! It is very elegant and classy! Everyone these days does strapless. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with strapless, but this is just more unique. :)
  • I actually think the first one is more wintery. The skirt on the second dress is beautiful, but it seems very light and airy to me and reminds me much more of summer.

I like the dress you already have better and I think it definitely fits a winter theme.

Also, there's no way that you're going to sell a dress you bought for $550 for $400.   You usually get 50% or less, even if you have not worn it.

    Good luck!
