is a chocolate brown tux weird?? -links in post-

Now that the dress is set, it's time to pick a tuxedo. He's going to ultimately choose what he likes, but since he doesn't know what the dress looks like, I get to make sure it will match.  It will probably be a week or so until we have time to go look together. Has anyone seen a chocolate brown tux in person? This is the one I found online that I like http://www.mytuxedocatalog.com/tuxedos/C913-Chocolate-Parisian-Tuxedo/

I also like tan and dove gray. Here is a tan one http://www.mytuxedocatalog.com/tuxedos/C994-Tan-Allure-Tuxedo/

We are having a rustic-ish wedding, my dress is allure 8858 (lace and tulle a line ballgown). Any opinions? I'm clueless in the way of the tux, lol!

  • I prefer the darker one.

    Anniversary
  • Definitely let FI pick what he and the groomsmen will be comfortable with.

Consider gray or tan suits if FI does not like traditional black tuxes.
  • Honestly, the only color a tux should be, IMO, is black.

If you want to mix things up with color then go the suit route.

But I would let your FI pick what he would prefer the most.  Either a suit or tux will go with your dress.

I agree with this. A colored tuxedo would look outdated. I also agree that a tan or grey suit looks good on lots of different kinds of people though.

  • I think the chocolate brown tux looks a little too Willy Wonka for my taste.   I think in a few years it's going to look VERY dated (kind of like we think powder blue and mauve tuxes look dated now).

I agree that tuxes should be black.   A grey, tan, black, or brown suit would be okay though.

  • Sorry but I'm not a fan of colored tuxes.

  • My cousin and his GMs wore brown tuxes. They were fine. I just don't think they really look like tuxes.

    Agree 100%.
  •  He's even more picky than I am, so this is likely to be a drawn out process.
Thanks to the people who were nice about it ;)

  • I personally am not a fan of chocolate brown tuxes. Definitely let him choose, though. A tan suit would look really nice.
  • I really don't care for the chocolate brown but the lighter one and the grey are okay
  • I don't care for the chocolate brown, but I really like the tan one. I think you should ask your fiance' what he thinks.

[QUOTE]In 1976, pastel colored tuxes were the rage.  Everyone has their guys wearing powder blue, mint green, tan, even pink tuxedos with ruffled shirts.  I refused to follow the trend and had the guys in classic black - thank heavens! I think chocolate brown and grey tuxedos will look just as silly in the future.  Stick with classic black and you'll be glad you did!  (I HATE chocolate brown tuxedos!!!)

I don't dismiss good manner as they never change with time.

HOWEVER:  Traditions do change and I'm quite thankful of that.  Customs and traditions do change and it doesn't help to hide in the closet.
