suits for groomsmen

Hi All!

My fiance is having a hard time finding a tux rental that fits, so I think we're going to go the suit route so he can purchase something and have it tailored. My only question is, what do the groomsmen do?

It looks like most places don't rent suits, so we could ask them to just wear their own black suit, though I'm not sure they all have them. Any good options for inexpensive suits?

I know we could get them all matching ties and stuff to pull the look together, but what about shoes? How important is this?

Has anyone else had this issue? How have you solved it?

Re: suits for groomsmen

  • Really, I don't think it is unreasonable to ask the GM to find suits. Many of them may have them, or they will find a way to purchase/borrow/rent one. Many places here do rent suits. You can suggest places to shop if they ask you. My FI and I were just out shopping and he bought a suit tonight at a Dillards outlet for 50% off the label price. He bought it in case he decides to wear it for the wedding (right now he is planning on wearing his Army dress blues) but if he doesn't use it for that he will be graduating this year and will need a nice suit for job interviews and such.

The GM's suits do not have to match exactly, and most of them will know how to shop accordingly or will know how to ask for help. :)

  • We knew when budgeting for our wedding that none of the GMs would have money for suits and don't currently own suits.

We got FI's suit 50% off at Express, for $200.  We got the best man's at Kohls for $95.  They don't match perfectly, but they're similar gray colors.  It was $150 just to rent gray suits at Al's formal, and we didn't find any other suit rental places.  Buying suits at Al's was almost 300.

For the other two GMs, we're hoping to find suits somewhere, maybe Kohls or Macys.  With some coupons.

We have asked the GMs to wear their own white dress shirt, or buy one if they don't have one.  Same with shoes... any black pair will do.  We think that's a reasonable request, since we're buying their suits.  More than likely, we already have ties for them to wear, they may just not all be the exact same (but same color scheme).

  • Idid suits.  We bought my husband a gray suit and I had all of the guys wear whatever black suit they wanted.  I know you can get deals on suits. You cann see how my guys looked in their suits http://happinessiscreating.com/my-wedding/
