Possibly silly question

I'm picking up my dress this weekend to take home for a few months before alterations can begin. When I go pick it up, will I get a chance to try it on? I don't want to try it on at home because I don't even own a decent full size mirror.

Re: Possibly silly question

  • It depends on your salon.
The DB I bought my dress from just threw the dress at me and said they'd see me at my alterations appointment (I went somewhere else).
  • No matter what salon you bought it from, you should try it on before you leave with it.  Once you take ownership of the dress the salon is no longer responsible for anything that may be wrong with it.  Try it on, make sure it is the right size, check to make sure there aren't any dirty spots, tears, rips, missing beads, etc.  Once you decide that it is ok, then you can leave the store.

I would especially recommend you do this if you are planning on doing your alterations elsewhere.  Also, if you got your dress from DB, I would suggest getting your alterations done elsewhere anyway.

This. My salon made sure I knew I had a certain amount of time to come in and make sure everything was ok. If there was something wrong they only have so much time to get it back to the designer to fix any issues.

  • Absolutely.  The salon will probably not make the offer, but insist on inspecting the dress before leaving the store.  It shouldn't be a big deal to them.

I was a dummy and didn't do it myself, but thankfully everything turned out alright.

  • Even if they don't give you an attendant, I would request a room to try it on like Maggie said, you need to make sure that it's the right size and there are no rips, stains, etc.
