Broken engagment ring?

Hi ladies!

Just wondering if anyone has ever broken or damaged their engagemt or wedding ring. And how did you feel about it?

Last night I was tucking my shirt into my pants and as I put my hand in I heard a loud snap. Horrified I pulled my hand out and looked at my ring and one of the small rubies on the side had popped out. I started to cry.

My fiance was coming to pick me up to go somewhere so I didn't call him right away, I told him about it when he came.
I was so upset with myself for damaging it even though I knew it could be fixed, just the thought of having to be without it for awhile made me so sad.

My fiance didn't seem to see the big deal. he said he would take it to the jewlers to get it fixed ASAP and it would be okay.

Has this happened to anyone? I'm wondering if I love my ring too much...

Re: Broken engagment ring?

  • my ring got  bent when i first got it--it even amazed the jewler  " you know this is bent? what did you do?" i probaly banged it into something i am really clumsy i dont even know how i did it!  it had to be hit hard too the way the way it was bent its 18k so its not like it bends super easy, right? it got fixed, but it took 2 months< they also had to send it to taccori to have the band made and it was over christmas/ new years so taccori was probaly closed for holiday and when they were open they were super busy i am sure>i think thats why it took so long. i was so lost without it!

    good luck
  • It's sad, especially when it happens so early on into you having the ring, but it's just something that is going to happen if you plan on wearing a piece of jewelry everyday for the rest of your life!

  • When I first got mine, my setting kept loosing the small micro pave diamonds in it. It was thru Art Carved and if it happend one more time they were goign to give me a whole new setting. Bummed me out, but they set it real good the last time it happened and haven't lost any since!!
  • I had my ring for 2 months when one of the prongs that held the big diamond broke off! I was devastated! But luckily we were able to get the ring fixed but I went a week without wearing it :(

  • Thanks ladies for the encouragment. I had a ring that I wore while we were unofficially engaged (to keep the guys away) so I'm back to wearing that. It's so ugly compared to my engagement ring!

  • I've had a couple of the small stones on my band fall out.  The jeweler was able to fix it in a day.  Like other girls have said, I'm pretty clumsy and tend to be rough on my hands.  My FI asked the jeweler about it when we looked at e-rings and they said that they will replace any stones that may come out of the band since they are so tiny and hard to set.  Don't feel too bad.  Stuff happens!
  • I actually BROKE my promise ring. I wear it on my right hand now that I have an engagement ring. But I work at a preschool and I was standing outside with the kids and was resting my hand on the top of the chain link fence. A child fell or something and I rushed to help then and heard a SNAP. I looked down and found that I actually tore the band! I was pretty amazed!

As far as E-rings and losing stones make sure you know your jewelers policy on replacing stones. My ring is fully covered for missing stones BUT <---see the condition! I have to get the ring inspected at the jewelery store every 6 months. If I don't keep up on inspections and loose a stone they will not cover it! I found this out after I went in fearing one of my diamonds was loose (it wasn't) but it scared me enough that I am religiously taking this thing in every 6 months!

  • Just a few weeks ago I got my hand smashed between some heavy metal at work, and it scratched the ring up pretty bad and knocked out the middle diamond.  I felt so bad about it (my FI actually designed this ring himself and the stones are from his late grandmothers ring) that I didn't even notice that the ring had been smashed intom my hand so hard that I cut myself and had been bleeding until a coworker pointed it out (which made me feel really stupid...it's not like it was a small amount of blood).

My FI was fantastic about it.  He cracked a joke about how he was surprised it had taken this long for something to happen to it (I'm a bit clutsy...), and that the next time I was around we'd just take it to the jeweler to have them fix it.  I'm definitely more paranoid about protecting it now, but at the same time I'm less worried since I know my FI is completely understanding that sometimes stuff just happens.
  • This post makes me feel a little better. I've only been engaged since Christmas Eve, and about a week ago I noticed one of the accent diamonds in my ring was missing. I don't know how or when it happened, and I never found the diamond. I hadn't had a chance to get the ring insured yet, either. I'm so sad about it!
