Dress Expectations? Longish...

Has anyone else been so focused on a certain dress or a certain dress style and when you tried it on were completely let down? Or have you found that a style you didn't particularily care for on the hanger looked amazing on you and turned your vision upside down?

I have been in LOVE, read: obsessed, with Maggie Sottero's Bernadette, but when I finally tried it on, I was a little let down. The quality is amazing and it's gorgeous, but i just didn't look 'me.' The beading was so heavy that it almost scratched my arms when I would move them and I almost cried because this dress was held so high in my mind that I was flabbergasted to not love it in person.

So, I go to check out David's Bridal, and while there I decide to try on one that I love, and another that caught my FI's eye but didn't interest me. So, my choice looks good, but it's a size smaller so I can't really get the whole feel. But, FI's choice, which is completely opposite of what I thought I wanted, looks amazing on me and looks like it's supposed to be on me. His eyes light up, I get all flushed at his reaction, and all I can think about is, this throws everything I thought I would do out the window.

THEN, come to find out, the dress I think I might change my 'theme' for is discontinued and the color I want (ivory) isn't available in my size anymore so I would have to buy the sample. Or I could order white, but I don't want that. So, now I have to make a choice a little sooner than I thought, but I hate feeling rushed.

Has anyone else had anything like this happen?? It kind of takes the joy out of dress shopping having to make a choice so soon without getting to take my time and enjoy the moment. I don't want to miss my chance at what could be my *dress.*
