lace for a corset

I just converted my dress from a zipper back to a corset and I wanted to lace it up with purple ribbon.

Anyone that has a corset with the lace, can you tell me how long your lace is? I know it really depends on the corset but I'm just trying to get a general idea.

I wanted to make sure I cut the ribbon long enough to lace it up and have a nice bow. Thanks so much!!!

I have not done a corset back but just wanted to point something out: usually the "lacing" on a corset is something stiffer than ribbon. Ribbon, when laced through the holes in a corset often collapses and doesn't look as good as you'd expect it to. I would have a seamstress make some lacing out of purple fabric, folded several times and sewn so that it's stiff enough.

The seamstress I went to said if I did do ribbon I would have to get a wide one and fold it a few times to make it thicker and more strong. Thank you for pointing it out to me. I'm hoping the ribbon I got will work!
