Take my dress without offending mother. Help!

So, I live in Alabama, my wedding is in Georgia, and I got my dress in Minnesota. My sister lives in Minnesota, and my parents live in Iowa. We decided to have my sister pick my dress up, and my mom is storing it for me until I can visit during the Holidays. For the purposes of fitting, I was planning on having my dress as a carry-on for my flight back to Alabama. (I've seen it done before where they'll hang it up/store it somewhere safe) However, my mother is a bit of a control freak and saying she'll keep it and drive it down with her. Which would be great, but here's my problem. My weddings in March, that means I will have only one fitting in December, and I'm a little paranoid not being able to have another fitting closer, like in February. Am I right to be concerned about this? Especially after the holidays, I like to eat... :/ And if so, what's a way to bring it up to her again without hurting her feelings? I don't know why she won't budge, but it's like I offend her when I suggest it. Everytime I touch on it she says, "No, I'll just bring it." As if it's not up for discussion. But, once again, I'm not comfortable with only having one fitting, and having it being 3 months before my date. Help!
