Dress purchased and I just found out I'm pregnant!

Our wedding is in July and I just found out that I'm pregnant.  I haven't been to the doctor yet but I would guess that I would be anywhere between 6 to 8 months pregnant at the wedding!  I purchased this Maggie Sottero floor model that was discountinued, so it is non-returnable.  It does have a corset back, do you think that this dress would still be able to work? I'm so depressed that I may not be able to wear it because I absolutely love it.  Moving the date isn't possible since deposits have already been paid and I don't know that I want to wait until after the baby.

  • I'm not sure what you mean by "anywhere between 6 and 8 months" pregnant at the wedding.   What is your due date?   Usually people can narrow it down a lot more than that.

There is a big difference between your body at 6 months and your body at 8 months, but really everyone is different.  That dress doesn't look particularly forgiving on a pregnant belly, but if you're going to be just barely 6 months then you might be able to have it altered so it will fit.

  • You can't really know it will be a problem until after you've gone to the doctor and know how far along you'll be at that point. Don't stress now until you have all the info.

  • My docotor appointment isn't until January 30th, but going off of my last period, my due date will most likely be the first week of September so that would make me 7 months at my wedding.

  • :( It really depends on your body and how fast you show. If you have a VERY small bump at 7 months, then a corset back would probably be the solution but pregnancy is very unpredictable so you'd be taking a chance and risk not fitting into your gown. Your belly grows the most between 7-9 months. I personally blew up with my first one instantly.

You can also push back your wedding three months and get married after your baby is born.
  • Congratulations!

  • I would contact wherever you ordered ASAP and at least see if they can order it in a bigger size.  Talk to them for I'm sure they would have some good advise for your best option in sizing.  If it is 7months I would expect that you would put on at least some weight and show some sort in the belly.  You can alter it smaller, but you mots likely will not be able to let it out to become bigger.  And I would imagine your bust will get bigger too...   But yes PPs are right... every person is different! One of my best friends looked like she was due any day already at 4months, my other friend didn't "pop" until her eigth month.  Typically, at 7 months you are going to be bigger on some level and will not be able to hide it for the most part.  Congratulations and I hope you can make something work-- it really is a beautiful dress!

  • Congrats on the baby news! I would really consider looking at photos of your mother and other relatives at 7 months of pregnancy to see how far their bellies stuck out. Honestly, I have seen this dress in person, and while it DOES have a corset back, it is NOT very forgiving in the lower belly/hip area, which will be what is expanding at 7 months with the baby. I would really consider finding a back up dress option, maybe something pretty and flowy with an empire or natural waist. Stay away from the drop waist options, like your dress, because it likely won't look very good with a round belly. Consider options like this:

Maybe not so much if you don't like the sleeves, but focus on the belly area of that dress. That is what you might need to consider.

  • Thanks for the advice everyone.  Since it was a discontinued floor model, ordering a larger size is out of the question.  I think the best option both financially and so that I can enjoy the wedding with as little stress as possible, is to move the date out to the following summer.  It totally bums me out and kind of breaks my heart but it's starting to feel like that is the best option..
