Getting Ready?

Here's a question: When do you plan on putting the dress on?

My home is only 15 min from the church. I really want to get ready there, have the pictures of getting ready there and everything. My church doesn't really have a good spot to do that. You can get ready, but I'd never want the basement in the pictures. My mom thinks that the dress will get wrinkled if  I sit in the car in it, and thinks I should put the dress on at the church. What do you ladies think?

Re: Getting Ready?

  • I put on the dress right before heading down to take pictures.  We were in a hotel room, but I didn't really think of the background for the pictures; I'm not sure I even have any pro pics of me getting into the dress.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • Because of our timeline I will be getting ready at home and then heading to our first look and family photos and then to the church for the ceremony. I am, like your mom, a little concerned that the dress will wrinkle but there is nothing I can do about it. Just make sure that when you sit down to smooth our the dress under your butt the best you can.

I didn't WANT any pro pics of that.  It was... awkward.  I did leave the bottom few rows of corset unlaced so we could get a few shots of that.

I got married in the hotel where I was staying, so my situation doesn't really apply, but I put on the dress about 45 minutes before the ceremony.

What kind of dress do you have?  What style and material?

  • I'm actually not sure what the fabric is...it does have a single layer of tulle overlay, but that would be super easy to steam. Under that, though, I'm not sure what it is.

And I should clarify:  the church's basement isn't just plain, it really is just old and ugly (I know I sound awful right now, but it is). It was built in the fifties on a budget, and there are concrete walls with fake wood paneling room dividers and lime green chairs...anyway, that's beside the point.

  • I had my dress pressed before the wedding and kept it laying flat. Then on my wedding day, my sister/MOH and I got our hair done, picked my dress up and headed to church to get dressed. After we were dressed, our photographer took pics of my and all of my BM's, Grandma's, etc.
