Storing the dress before the big day?

I have to go pick up my dress by next Friday (it came in early!!!), but I'm freaking out about storing it for the next 8 months.

I heard that you should have a nice garment bag to keep it in, but that the stores charge an arm and a leg for them. Anyone know how much DB charges for theirs? I'm thinking about just getting one off ebay before I go to get my dress; good idea?

Any other long-term, pre-wedding storage tips are also appreaciated!

according to that article it depends on the fabric and beading mostly. i've heard before about wrapping it in a sheet, and that if it's a fabric that needs to breathe to leave the garmet bag half open if you're hanging it up.

Yup I have heard the sheet thing and letting it breath. They will probably tell you in the store when you pick it up. Definitely check with them.

My bridal salon will store mine until the day before my wedding.

DB threw in the bag for free.  They suggested we wrap the dress in a clean white sheet to keep the bag from yellowing the dress while it was in storage, it worked!  After alterations there was only a couple weeks left before the wedding, I stored the dress hanging on the closet door in the spare bedroom so it wouldn't get wrinkled.

I got my dress from DB.  I stored it in one of their plastic garment bags for almost 2 years, and it never got yellow.  I just made sure to leave the bag unzipped a little bit so it could breathe, and I laid it down flat.

My dress is a DB dress, and my mother and I wrapped it in a white sheet, pinned the sheet loosely to the hanger, and put it in the bag that we got at DB.  I bought it in September 09, and I've opened the bag twice since then, to air it, let it breathe, and shake the dust out of the sheet.  It looks great thus far.
