Freaking out about dress

The dress I received is not like the sample dress I tried on almost a year ago. The sample dress fitted perfectly with extra length. The dress I have now is 3 inches too short (above me feet w/o shoes) and fits a little tight. So now I have to get the hips let out ($$) and the top taken in a little ($). There isn't enough fabric to make it any longer. So I'm hoping the let out will drop the dress some. I'm so frustrated right now. I looked at my receipt from when I first purchased the dress and they did not measure my height to see how long to order the dress. I can't stop thinking of how much I'm not in love with it anymore. Plus my wedding is almost a month away its not something I wanted to worry about.

Re: Freaking out about dress

  • How tall are you?  Most dresses are made long enough for someone about 5'7".  Unless you are taller than that, it sounds like either the dress shop or manufacturer made a mistake.  I'd follow up with the salon and make sure they ordered the right size.
  • Sample dresses are usually a little stretched out because of how many girls have tried them on before you.  That said, I agree with PP.  Are you sure the shop ordered you the correct size?  I'd be VERY annoyed, especially about the height issue.
  • That is unexceptable about the height. What did the salon say about it?

As for the fit, you definitely have a right to complain about paying for these adjustments. There are very specific measurement charts that salons use to order dress sizes. When you order the dress, they should have taken your measurements then matched those to the appropriate number size for your dress manufacturer. If you can show that your measurements have not changed since when you ordered, I would complain that the salon erred in ordering you a too-small dress.

Question: Have you gained any weight since a year ago? That could be why the fit is different. The dress you tried on could also have been stretched. Also, in case they don't do anything--which they probably should, once the hips are taken out the dress should fall better and be longer.
