Alfred Angelo broke my heart

At 3 weeks before the big wedding day I flew cross country (near my wedding site) to try on my Alfred Angelo bridal gown that we were told would be there. Day of, they couldn't find it. A week later (now I'm back on the other side of the country) they were still trying to "find it" and didn't even know if it made been made. We went days without hearing from them, had a woman nervously laugh on the phone that she had no idea what to tell us (this was not funny AT ALL to us), and had to keep following up to get any of the limited information. They tried to make it up by overnighting it once it was made and saying we only had to pay 1/2 price. But once it arrived, the quality was so bad, my last minute alterations woman said I would be LAUGHED at if I wore it for my day. Alfred Angelo offered a full refund but how can you possibly make something like this up to a bride? At 2 weeks to the day, I had to buy a last minute gown and paid twice as much to do so with no compensation beyond the price of the original dress. Our wedding planner said she had NEVER heard of something like this happening to any of her brides and was appalled. We went from shocked, to angry, to just downright sad and sleepless. I will not be recommending this company to any of my young friends and cousins for their wedding despite their minor attempts at making this up to me. Heartbroken. Has anyone had this happen to them?!

Honestly I can say this has not happened to me or anybody I know, but shame shame shame on them. Imo, not only are they responsible to pay for the new dress, the airfare, and any other emotional damage due to their ineptitude. That's completely ridiculous. A bride shouldn't have that much dress stress 2 weeks before her wedding. I'm glad you found a dress though. Hopefully, this new dress is a million times better than the old dress! Then maybe it would all be worth it.
  • Where in NJ are you.  There are many stores that sell AA gowns and there is even an AA flagship store in Cherry Hill.  Where did you go to get the dress?  Maybe one of them has a sample of your gown that they could get you.

  • That's terrible, there is no amount of money to make up for your troubles and worry.  Did you go to an Alfred Angelo boutique or a local bridal shop?  The reason I ask is that at the AA boutiques, each order gets a "tracking number" and they are able to look it up quite easily to see what the status is - pending - > production -> shipped and estimated arrival date.  It sounds like the people at whatever store you were at are incompetent.

  • Thanks for the concern everyone. I was working directly with an Alfred Angelo boutique so clearly if they knew anything (as they should have) they weren't sharing what they knew. And when we found out the dress was being made in china and they couldn't get ahold of the manufacturer, we didn't think there was much hope! But it was somehow rush made (and like I said earlier, very poorly done!). I didn't even consider getting another Alfred Angelo dress or sample following it because of how it all played out.
  • That sucks.

Had you tried on the dress before? I ask, beacuse it seems odd to me that the quality would differ so much from the sample. Does that mae sense?

Also, most wedding dresses are made elsewhere (China, etc), but there is a difference between AA having them made in China and Chinese knock off sites.

  • Yeah I had tried the dress on before, but there was definitely a rush in the production of the final product (button loops were already broken upon arrival, fabric didn't seem to be cut on the bias and was bunching in places which is not fixable, and design along the hips was uneven from one side to the other). I wasn't really put off by it being made in China quality wise (except knowing that it probably costs them barely anything to have it made compared to what I was paying) but was at that point thinking there would be no way it could be made fast enough and shipped from China!
