non traditional groom attire?

my fiance and I are getting married in the Hilton hotel in Las Vegas in August of 2010 and I have my dress, and the bridesmaids have their dresses but I'm not sure what the groom and groomsmen should wear. the colors are navy, crimson and silver.
neither my fiance nor I like the traditional stuffy tuxedos but I still want them to look classy. any ideas?

If you want it to still look formal, I would stick with a suit rather than a tux.  Perhaps they could wear the suit jacket, but no tie, for a slightly less formal and more comfortable look.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • We've been trying to find a clean tan/khaki suit...you know the one you seen in all the destination wedding mags. No store has a tan suit like this, so we came up with a potential solution: just have the guys wear nice khakis and white dress shirt with tie and let the groom find a suit he likes. We might just do this??
  • My FI and I are doing the same thing that chrisandeva described.  We found a really nice khaki suit (on sale!) at Macy's this weekend.  Then, we'll ask his GM to wear khaki pants, a white collar shirt, and send them a link to a few ties that will match the color scheme.  I tried to find a link with the Calvin Klein suit we got, but can't find it on the Macy's website.  FWIW the salesman said it is a new style that they just received a few weeks ago. HTH!

  • Ohhh, sale at Macy's?! COnoviaSarah, do you have the info of the suit? Brand name, style, price, photo?? I will run to Macy's tomorrow if I can!
  • I love the look of the dark wash jeans and suit blazer. and I think if I got dark enough jeans they would still look formal enough.
I'm just afraid that with as fancy as my dress is that all the informal-ness of the groom and bridesmaids and groomsmen will look out of place, or I will look out of place in my mom's fancy wedding dress.
  •  FI is going to wear a chocolate brown suit, and the groomsmen will wear chocolate brown khakis, a cream button down shirt and an orange tie.
