dyeing shoes red

Has anyone had experience with dyeing shoes red? I can't seem to find any shoes that are in the shade I want so I am thinking it might come down to that. I am so worried that the red will bleed all over our feet and my dress though!  Any advice would be great. Thanks!

[QUOTE]Yes.  They bleed.  One spot of moisture or sweat and you will wish you hadn't done it.

Please just stop! Not everyone has an awful experience.

I had my shoes dyed because I couldn't find the right purple. They will recommend you spray them with a protective spray a few days before and let them dry thoroughly.

Yes, it rained at my wedding and I walked through the wet grass for pictures after it stopped. When the day was done (12 hrs later) I had a little bit of purple on my feet that washed right off, but it got on nothing else. So, like I said not everyone has a bad experience. Good Luck!

I don't know if you have one near you, but you need to go to David's Bridal because they will dye your shoes for your and its only $10 a pair. I have not had any of my shoes died there, but I heard from more than one person that they do a beautiful job.
If you don't have a David's Bridal near you, you may also try to find a dancewear or dance shoe store. I used to work at a Dancewear/ dance shoe store and we dies shoes on the side for extra money. The dye did not ever come off on anyone feet or anything. I died the shoes myself and we would not let them go out the door until they were ready to wear for a stage performance.
If you don't have a dancewear or dance shoe store around you, try and find a shoe repair place because they will often times paint or dye your shoes for you as well.

  • Just be sure you choose a place that is reputable.  My aunt went to a less than stellar place to get them dyed a deep red and my feet ended up stained red for a few days.  That's not to say that will happen to you, but I would make sure the place you choose knows what they are doing.

  • I would recommend really trying to stay away from the dyeing route.  Have you stalked Zappos and Endless?  Nina and RSVP generally have a good supply of red, and Nina even has a "design your own shoe" option on their website.

If you do dye shoes, make SURE you choose a shoe that is actually listed as being dyeable.  You cannot dye just any white shoe you find as many are treated so they resist stains (and therefore resist dye).  After dyeing, spray them with a protectant like ScotchGuard, but be aware that this spray only helps protect the shoe and is not a guarantee.  Dyes can bleed if they get wet (rain, spilled drinks, sweat, etc), and this dye can end up on your feet or the bottom of your dress.  Some colors will bleed more than others, and unfortuantely red dyes are both the most likely the bleed and the most likely to stain other items simply because of the way they have to be formulated.
