Dress not in yet!

My dress isn't in yet. I ordered it in December, It was quoted to be in by May 15th.  Every time I call the bridal shop they keep telling me that the designer had a lot of orders this year and since they make all the dresses custom they can't give me a date that it will be in by (just that they can guarantee it will be here before the actual day)
My wedding is 75 days away. Am I just freaking out or is this time frame normal?

  • I ordered my dress in October and it arrived in April.

  • I ordered my dress in Dec and was told it would be in in June. They promised me that  2 months was enough time to do the alterations. My wedding is 61 days away and I don't have it yet- but I understand why you are antsy! I cannot wait!
  • You should be able to call your salon and get an ETA on your dress.  They should be able to call the manufacturer and tell them that the dress is almost a month past it's original arrival date and that they need to know when they will ship it out.  If it reaches 60 days before your wedding I would really start raising hell.  As of right now you should have plenty of time to get it altered.  Just make sure that you have an alterations person ready to go when your dress arrives.

What's the dress maker.  Mine was a Maggie and I had HUGE issues with them being on time.  Originally it was supposed to come in October.  i finally received it at the end of January.  The due date changed a ton of times for stupid reasons like 'we sold the dress we were originally going to send you since someone ordered it as a rush", 'it'll be there at the end of november, early december, beginning or January, on thursday" and it finally arrived a week later and  the day i was going to order another dress.

P.S. I went into the salon and they called the maker right then.  We did this several times.  I was tired of getting the run around.
  • Sorry you're getting the run-around. I'd talk to your dress shop, who should be fighting for you with the designer. If they're not doing it for you, contact the designer directly.

I agree that you've still got plenty of time to get it fitted, since fittings really only take a few weeks. But have a seamstress ready to go for when the dress does arrive.
  • OP- I called my shop today and my dress was in!! In fact, it had been for a week. Apparently so many dresses had come in recently they were just behind on making the calls to pick-up. I'd give you shop a call again- maybe this is the case.
    Good luck!
  • I'm not even starting my alterations until Aug 7, my wedding is Sept 25.  I lost 2 inches in my chest & waist over the past 5 months and need it sized down, so to be safe my seamstress suggest we start them later.
My youngest BM had to have a new dress, thanks to a maturing 13 yr old body her chest grew 2 inches in the past 5 months.  Thank heavens I have an awesome bridal shop owner, she's going to order a new dress, even a different style with a corset back to allow for any more "growth" in a size larger.  She stated she "should have thought about her growing"  and she "needed a sample size 2 anyway"  All we have to pay is the difference in the dress cost. Her dress is schedule to ship Aug 20, and they still said we would be ready on time.

  • I find it odd that your dress store doesn't have any information for you. My dress was a couple of weeks late coming in and when I would call they always had answers for me. Except they told me it would ship out on X date and take a week to get there, two weeks later I called and they said that my dress was supposed to ship out X date but that it ended up getting out a week later.  That's the story of my life though...

Fortunately my dress fits perfectly (apparently my weight loss plan tanked!) and I had just the right heels for the length of the dress - no alterations here! Yay! That means I don't have to worry about my dress at all until the wedding even though I was worried for a good month about its arrival! GL!
