Post-Wedding: What are you doing with your dress?

I'm already thinking about what to do with my wedding dress after my August wedding. On one hand, I'm pretty sentimental, so hanging onto my wedding dress is something I'd consider. On the other hand, I'm also kind of practical and have a hard time figuring out exactly what I'd do with my dress in the future to justify preserving it. I'd love to hear what your plans are for your wedding dress.

  • I havent thought about this yet but after reading the options in the poll I think turning it into other keepsakes is a great idea. How cool would it be if I could have it made into a christening outfit?? Very cool idea!
  • Mine is preserved and in a box under a guest bed.  Figured this option allowed the most possibilities down the line - including having it made into something else.

  • I'm donating mine to Brides for Breast Cancer. They take dresses and sell them at lower costs for survivors and such and the money gets donated to research. I know I'll never do anything with it so there is no room for me to take up space with it.
  • I'm selling it if I can (FI's student loan makes me twitchy) but if I don't find a buyer I'll donate it.  I thought about making it into something - either the tree skirt idea or dying it into a cocktail dress - but I'd honestly rather recoup some money.
  • I had mine preserved.  I just got it back on Saturday and had no clue the box would be so big.  I guess I'm going to put it in the guest closet, it's laying on the spare bed right now.

  • I'm wearing 2 dresses one I'm gonna donate the other one I'm gonna turn into a cocktail dress and wear it on my anniversary.
  • I will probably sell mine.   I will have plenty of pictures to look at of the dress, and I can't imagine ever wanting to do anything with it again.   If I don't get a buyer for a reasonable price, I'll donate it and take the tax writeoff.
  • We have a ten month old daughter and will be trying for baby number 2 right after the wedding (secretly hoping for another girl) so it will probably hang out in my closet waiting for dress up.

I'm preserving mine, I am so in love with my Grandmothers wedding gown and would have worn it with absolutely no alterations to the design, however without the dress being properly preserved it was destroyed and unwearable. I know it sounds cliche but I would like to preserve my gown just in case one day my daughter or a grandaugher would like to wear it.

  • We have decided to have my gown preserved.  It is handmade by my mother and means a great deal to me.  I want to be able to pass it down the line when the time comes and have it just as beautiful as it is today.  Smile
