Help! To add black sash and flower or to not add black sash and flower? With pictures!

I am thinking of adding a black belt to my wedding dress just for the reception, does it look ok with the dress though? Shold I leave it as is with no sash?

Does the sash look like it sits too low? I was just holding this so it would probably come in a bit more and be slightly tighter when done properl.y

Im also thinking of adding a black flower for the night time too?

Black flower and sash.

I am very very indecisive so any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

I like the idea of it, but I think it looks funny situated under the flowers. It looks like an afterthought. If there were a way for the flowers to look more like they were a part of the belt then I think it would be cute.

  • I agree that it sits too low.

I really don't love the idea since I think it breaks up the lines of the dress, but if you're really tied to it, I'd suggest seeing if you can remove the existing flowers and attaching them to the belt, then wearing it all at the narrowest part of your waist. But then your dress might not look how you want it for the ceremony.

Honestly, I'd just leave it alone, and maybe add a fun hairpiece or something if you'd like to add drama for the reception.
  • I agree with pp - the black accent is nice, but looks a little off because of the position.  What about wearing a black bolero, or black shoes to keep that accent without messing with the flow of your dress?

  • Thanks for the opinion, that is what I was worried about, I like the idea but dont want it to look like it really isnt supposed to be there!

i pinned it on a bit tighter which I think looks slightly better, I would also get them to make it thinner, probably almost half this. Also, this is a thick belt, the real fabric will be much thinner.

Any more opinions would be greatly appreciated!

    thanks girls!
  • I actually really like it! I love when people add color for the reception, I especially LOVE LOVE LOVE the flower in the hair!!! If you like it I say go for it!
  • Yeah I agree with PP's it just looks off for some reason. I like Cleo's idea of finding another way to get your accent color in there. I love the dress better without the belt, it's very pretty.

  • i think the black looks fine, it's a cute touch
  • I like the idea, a lot.  But the way you're holding it it's emphasizing the wider part of your body.  Sashes, per my understanding, are supposed to cinch the waste, not emphasize the hips.

    BTW, your dress is gorgeous.

  • I personally like it without the sash because I think the sash makes this dress look too choppy but that's just me. Do what you like the best!
  • I usually don't like colors in addition to white on dresses, but I think this looks great..and would look fabulous with a black tux!

The dress itself is beautiful.  Who's the designer?
  • I like it, but I think it does look odd with the placement of the flowers.  And I agree with opal that it does look a bit too low.  But  I always like a pop of color :)

  • Thanks for all of that great advice girls.

I dont want to have the flowers removed and added to the belt as I only want to wear the belt at night, but I want the flowers all day!

Good idea about using something other than the belt to add colour, thanks! The wedding is in the middle of an Australian summer so I cant wear a bolero, but maybe black diamante shoes and a big black flower in hair and scrap the belt is an idea.

The gown is Maggie Sottero...not sure of spelling! I feel really special in it which is how i know it's the one!

The groom will be in a black tux with thin black tie, so the look would tie in but maybe its too harsh with the romantic flowing style of dress.

    I might try
    1) a different colour sash, like a champagne colour.
    2) putting the sash higher, but I think that will look funny because the dress kind of goes out at that join at the hip.

I'll keep you posted on how they go, I'll try any other suggestions that come my way too!
  • I really like the look with the sash. Also, there will ALWAYS be many different opinions about fashion and looks. If YOU like it, then do it! If you think you'll look back at the photos with/without the sash and think "I wish I had done this differently," then don't do it.
  • I love the hairpiece, but am not crazy about the sash. Who's the designer who said take off one accessory before you leave the house? That's what I think of here - my suggestion is to just do the hairpiece.
