"Something Old"

What did you do for your "something old"? I have absolutely no idea what to do.

Re: "Something Old"

  • My MIL gave me a vintage handkerchief with my new last initial embroidered on it.

  • I'm thinking of using part of my mom's veil as the wrap around my bridal bouquet (her veil was white and I'm going with ivory).  My mom's veil also had buttons hidden/sewn under the crown that were from my great great grandmother's wedding dress that I'm going to use--I'm just not sure how exactly since I don't have my dress yet.
  • I'm wearing my mom's veil. It was white 25 years ago...but has aged to the perfect ivory to match my dress =)
  • My dress was made in the '50s, so I'm going with that as my something old.  It also has a bit of blue in it, so it is my something blue as well.
  • I didn't plan for the "something blue old new" thing but right before the ceremony, my DH's grandmother gave me an old handkerchief that's been passed down for several generations.  I was really touched.

  • I'm wearing my mom's blue garter she had at her wedding to my dad...hope the good luck passes on to us :)
  • FI is an avid hunter so I am taking an old camo shirt of his and cutting it up to make my garter and a wrap for my bouquet!!!!
  • I'm wearing my late grandmother's pearls for something old and also because we're getting married on what would've been her 70th birthday.
  • Although not necessarily very old by some standards (15 years or so), I'm going to wear a ring that my mom had custom made for my grandmother (both have since passed).  It matches nothing I will be wearing but it's very sentimental and will help me feel like they're both there.

We cut the bodice of my wedding gown and used that to wrap my daughter's bouquet.

    See PIP below:

  • For my something old: I am getting small picture frame charms with pictures of mine and my future husbands deceased granparents in them and pinning them to the satin ribbon around my bouquet in their honor and our love for them.
I saw it in a magazine and I loved the idea!

  • I am using my grandmother's sequined purse on my wedding day.  I believe she used it on her wedding day too.  The aged white matches my ivory dress beautifully.
  • I am using my grandparents' cake topper.  I will also have a piece from my mom's wedding dress as my bouquet wrap with Andy's mother's necklace as a charm on the bouquet wrap.

  • I am wearing my mom's veil from 28 years ago!  I am wearing ivory, and her veil is still white, but we are dying it to match my dress.  It was a mantilla with a head piece, so we also have to remove the headpiece, shorten it to fingertip length, and add a clip.  I am sooo excited to wear her veil.  It makes the day all the more special!

  • I'm using my great grandmothers lace headpiece and attaching my veil to it. Both my mother and grandmother used it, along with both of my aunts. So far I will be the only one from my generation to use it : ).
  • I am using a hankerchief that both my mom and my grandmother carried on their wedding day, it also has a little blue.  My 'keeper' garter is also blue...
  • I'm having my grandparents original wedding rings, the ones they exchanged on their wedding day, (they bought a second set on their 25th wedding anniversary and a third on their 50th) sewn into the inside of the bodice of my dress, closest to my heart.

I'm going to wear my Great Great Grandmothers locket. My Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Mother have all worn it on their wedding days. I can't wait to keep the tradition going!

  • I had my grandma's hankie which i embroidered with our monogram and the date and the flowers she wore in her hair when she got married

  • I am wearing my grandmothers engagement and wedding band on my right hand.  She was trendy enough back then to have her rings in white gold, which is what mine is, so it will match perfectly!
  • I am incorporating my late grammy's itty bitty bouquet Bible into my bouquet somehow. It's at least 70 years old.

One of my best friends' aunts made her a necklace out of her late grandparents' wedding rings. It was stunning.

  • Mine is going to be my great-great grandmother's emerald ring. It's been given to me because it's my birthstone  (May) & I think it's a great idea because our wedding is in May too!

My sister carried our grandmother's handkercheif. I will either carry that or possibly wear the same grandmother's 50-year-old wedding gown.
  • My something old is my dress. It was my mother's, grandmother's and great-grandmother's. It's 103 years old this year! But if you're not sure, apparently jewelry, bit's of veil or fabric from a relative's dress, shoes, or even gloves could work. Good luck!
  • Old: I'm wearing my great-grandmother's crystal jewelry from the 1940s (I think... might be older).

    New: veil/headpiece/shoes (dyed turquoise!!)

Borrowed: GG's jewelry, and a handkerchief from my grandmother/mother.

    Blue: Turquoise shoes! Duh!

And a sixpence in her shoe! Every female in my family has had the same sixpence in their shoe when they got married. Actually, now that I think about it, that sounds kinda gross. LOL it's clean, I swear!
  • I'm wearing my grandmother's ring that has the diamond in it from my deceased grandfathers wedding band.  She had it set in a white gold ring and so I will be wearing it on my right hand with my engagement and then bridal set on my left.  I had originally wanted the diamond from this ring to be placed into my engagement setting, but then decided keeping it in the original ring would be more special to me.  This ring is to be given to me when my grandmother passes, but she is still very much alive and has agreed to let me wear it on my wedding day!!!  It will be a special memory for us both :)
  • My mother wants me to wear the amethyst ring that was her grandmother's.  She wore it at her wedding.
Also, when I was born, an aunt gave a little lace Bible that was meant to be carried by a bride on her wedding day, so that could also be my something old.
  • my mom gave me the jewelery she wore on her wedding day to wear on mine. I'm just wearing the necklace since my ears aren't pierced. I also have the Slip i wore to my sisters wedding that i'm using for my wedding. its under the dress so no one will see it but its something of mine thats old

  • WOW!! All of these are super sweet! I got tears in my eyes reading everyone's "Something old"

Mine is also going to be my late Great Grandmother's Pearls and hankie. My FI is actually going to wear his late father's wedding band as his own wedding band.
  • I pinned my grandmother's cameo into ne of my flowers in my bouquet, its over 100 years old and it was one of the first things you saw when you looked at my bouquet.  My nan was so touched she cried when she saw it.
