Comfortable enough for a reception?

I was planning on buying two dresses... One for the ceremony, and another one for the reception. I had a budget laid out for each dress but fell in love with Abaco from Pronovias. It's over the budget for one dress, but still within the budget I laid out for two dresses. Now I'm leaning towards picking just this dress but I'm afraid that however beautiful it is, it won't be comfortable, what do you think I should do?

  • Its a beautiful dress.  I think you need to go try it on and practice sitting in it, standing in it, and dance in it. I did this with the 2 dresses I was contemplating over in the bridal salon.  The sales thought I was funny, but smart.  Its a big purchase and one you don't want to regret.  Also, take pictures of yourself in the dress and give yourself a few days to look at them and decide how you feel about it.  Dress shopping can definitely be overhelming.

  • Until a few years ago, pretty much everyone wore the same dress for their ceremony and reception.  I can't imagine that dresses are suddenly less comfortable than they were a few years ago.

If you're worried about comfort, then do like Madisonpenny suggested and try it on while sitting, standing, etc.  If you think it's that uncomfortable though, then why even bother wearing it to the ceremony?  You'll still be in it for several hours of getting ready, pictures, etc.

  • I don't understand two dresses at all.  I bought this beautiful wedding gown that I could only wear for a few hours of my whole life.  I would never shorten that time by buying another dress that I would wear for an even shorter time!!

My advice: pick one dress that you love and that you don't want to take off.  Make sure it isn't heavy and remember that even if it fits tight when you get it, it will loosen up as your wedding day goes on.
  • This gown doesn't look like it will be stiff or heavy so I think you will be comfortable for your reception and I would go with just this dress.  Madison had good suggestions about really checking out the fit and the comfort.  Don't forget if you want a different look for your reception you could always take your hair down, change veil for headband, or etc.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • I'd go try it on and then decide.  I don't understand the 2 dress thing, either - I'm already sad I only get to wear my dress for 12 hours!  Why would I want to wear it for less time?

The gown you like looks like it would be reasonably comfortable to me, from what I can tell just from the photo.
